My whole visa fiasco seems over

I swear this is the longest two months in my life. If you followed my blog a bit, you probably read that I got a job offer in Malta as a skilled worker, I got a work permit, but not the visa because my country is classified as Dark Red country. My employer's HR doesn't seem able to navigate this complexities, so I took over the process and confront the visa authorities myself. After a one month exchanging emails between the visa authority and the department of health, finally I got authorized to start my long stay visa in Malta. I need to send my documents to Beijing as there is no maltese embassy. Malta is still happening for me, at least...

However, the whole fiasco happened because miscommunication. You see, Malta is currently banning all travels from Dark Red countries, which means I couldn't fly directly from my country to Malta. The visa authority seems misunderstood my request, they thought I was asking to authorize direct travels from my country to Malta, which is not the case. I told them I completely understand that I need to stay in Red Country for 14 days before entering Malta, but to do that I need a long stay visa as my passport doesn't have schengen visa waiver duhhhhhh.

Guess what? 3 days later, I got authorized to start my visa application. What the heck??? All this delay was because of semantic? Dear gods...

Anyway, my employer seems impatient with the process, so it seems I will resign next month, and start working remotely in the Netherlands until I arrived in Malta, and could exchange my work permit to residence permit.

I am so tired with my situation, and many times, I almost wanted to stop, but I told myself, what would my future self tell me now? Thank goodness I gave up for the life I will have?
I also happened to discover this beautiful music video from Yukika. Basically the singer met her past self and encourage her past self to push her dream to become a singer, and then I told myself, I cannot give up just now if I want to escape my covid-ravaged country

I remember tc is from Indonesia rite? why do you ever want to travel such far distance for a job in Malta? Don't you like ur wealthier neighbour Singapore?
Perhaps does Malta's job pay more?

@leon315
yeah, I got a job in malta twice the locals' salary. It's more than singapore and it can serve as a stepping stone to establish a career in europe

Also I am a bisexual, I don't feel any freedom living in Asia, so liberal europe is my only choice, but I don't want to migrate as a refugee, so I helped myself by applying skilled worker jobs

@cearp Europe don't see Indonesia as a dangerous place. So people aren't counted as Refugees. He will be returned without a proper visa and can hurt his chances later.

So he can't do the refugee thing (or that it wouldn't succeed etc), fine.
I thought it sounded like he can, because bisexual etc, but didn't want to try.
As an islamic country, I wouldn't be surprised that people might escape, I think I've read about similar things before (as in, gays from from not 'war torn' countries being granted asylum into better countries)

@cearp I read enough horror stories of people who got stuck in the asylum system, waiting for a refugee status in the legal limbo. Since my life is not in an immediate danger and I know I could migrate as a tech worker, I will never ever enter the asylum system. The system is rigged and you are designed to lose.

I met someone from Iran who escaped his country because he's gay and would be killed if he returned to Iran. He was stuck in Indonesia for 5 years waiting to get relocated to Canada. During that long wait, he contemplated to commit a suicide more than a few times. What the hell, the system supposed to help people, not to drive them to suicide.

the legal drinking age here in the US is 21, as some of you may know, but i think either it should be 18 or the age you're an adult should be 21.

  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
and i know what you may be thinking, "why become an adult at 21? doesn't that mean that banging an 18 year old would be illegal?"
first of all, being in a relationship with someone who's 18 is technically ok, as long as it started when they were 18, but the age gap is still weird depending on how old you are. besides, the age of consent differs between different states

  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
also my reasoning for adult age being 21 is because the reason that's the drinking (and now smoking) age is because it "gives them more time to think rationally and not drive drunk"
so you should have that extra time to mature and think rationally before going to serve in the military or vote

  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
tl;dr the "adult" age and the legal drinking age (and voting age) here in the US should be the same

It's all good no one pays attention to the law anyway lol
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
What about making kids wait till 18 or 21 to drive? And yea is messed up, you can join army and die for your country at age 18, but you can't drink alcohol or smoke a cig til 21, is ridiculous
