Past scene drama (why ARN was renamed)

Since I explained this to a couple of people who asked me in private, I figured I could put it here if anyone is interested.

"I swear I really respected Rei at first (Luma was originally named "AuReiNAND" to reflect that he was the author of the original project). I was also with him on a Skype group, CTRDev, and I was chill with him, he genuinely seemed like a nice person and we got along. Then at some point he started the "bloat meme" and discussions about my code sucking increased, he even brought it to reddit where he made a post about it (but then CTRDev members convinced him to take it down). Then one day someone added a fake account ("DILIGAF") to CTRDev, who started insulting me in a very bad way. CTRDev is a private group, so it was one of us. That day (it was at the end of April) I had just argued with Rei and he misgendered me as well, I have logs of the argument and of DILIGAF:
http://pastebin.com/7CL2SuZZ
http://pastebin.com/MRhe2ePJ
After this was over me and Tux investigated it, Tux used some Skype IP tool to determine his IP, and we sent it to GBAtemp staff. The outcome was that it was most likely a GBAtemp regular, since the IP blocks matched; coincidentally it was a person we found out got close to Rei: http://i.imgur.com/75pbunM.png (he also had stuff about Luma being bloated in his GBAtemp signature).
So with everything figured out, we exposed Rei to the CTRDev members and he left saying the group sucked.
Some time later (one month I believe?) Rei asked Ryan to take over CTRDev's then admin's account (he either had the password, as this person claims to have given it to him; or he guessed it but it doesn't really matter) and take over and spam the group. And so he did. http://i.imgur.com/JHWcnRL.png
Other than this, I was shown screenshots of Rei shit talking me on the Discord 3dsch*** group (3dsch*** is where the "DILIGAF" person came from, they just seem to be a circle of people who hate me for some reason).
I called him out because I just had enough. As it can be seen in the screenshots in the other blog post he knew this would happen before my github was messed with and the transphobic things were posted here. And Punderino posted lots of things that Rei uses to say (like that I copy Rei's work and stuff http://i.imgur.com/SYaO9LY.jpg ). He even used transphobic expressions that Rei uses towards me (I'd rather not repeat those). So even assuming Rei didn't have a hand in the hacking, he definitely had one in "setting him up" for this; I already saw once on the wiiubru IRC that Ryan and Punderino repeated Rei's insults."

Some people have nothing better to do than to spread hate. One would think that wouldn't be the case in a scene that hacks video game systems.

The world would be a better place if everyone would spread love instead of hate, but people just love hating. This is why we can't have nice things.

In the end, Rei shouldn't have open sourced his shit if he wanted fame.

Well, I can't believe there's so much drama going around, back in the day, the DS scene was pretty chill and laughable at best. (mah pokaymanz leak!11!)

Then how would he have been supposed to get fame.

I mean, he got fame by publishing RN, which for its first commit was at least non-credited code or patches?

Well, the big deal over ReiNAND was how it worked on New 3DSes IIRC, but I wasn't here back when it was released.

The amount of shit you have to put up with is insane Aurora, and I had hoped it was all over a few months ago, it's really shitty it had to be dragged up again.

Your work is incredible, and you're a fantastic person - don't let this drama discourage you.

this is what the "Ignore" or "Block",
JK.

Ya that sucks...
I dont know,
I mean I could see him doing this if you didn't give credit to him at all,
but, heck his name is at the top of the creds,

"I mean I could see him doing this if you didn't give credit to him at all,

I read skimmed the ReiNand's license, and Luma 3DS has done everything it requires.

The way I see it, when someone forks your code and starts gaining more popularity than yours (happened a while ago with Sky Editor and matix2267's Sky JEditor), there's a few things that you can do:
- Do nothing. By far the simplest option.
- Spread hate from jealousy
- * Encourage the fork, hoping to see further development
- * Attempt to make yours better
- * Fork or adapt changes from the fork back into the original. The license goes both ways after all.

The options marked with an asterisk (*) were the ones I chose regarding Sky Editor and Sky JEditor. To be perfectly honest, I initially felt a little bit jealous (although I would not have spread hate - nothing good can come from it), but quickly realized that it's not about which program it's better, it's about how the presence of both can enhance the community (since Sky JEditor did introduce new save-editing research). Fast-forward to today where both have features the other lacks. (Although each could be adapted to have features from the other - it's just that we haven't gotten around to adapting some of the newer features.)

@UniqueGeek To be it sounds like you are a normal, good human. So you learned from each other? Like the wonderful use of OpenSource?
To me, it sounds like the both developed a really good tool(s). I don't have any Sky3DS so I can't say how well anyone of them work.
Some people can(should) learn from this.

I have to say that reading the logs made me think of Rei as a combination of two people I'm familiar with. They aren't members here, I genned pokemon for them, never had beef, at a time I would read the Skype group (it's a GBA league) and it was easy to learn about the members without saying anything. One of them had a strange view on homosexuality, doesn't find it comforting, but supports it and not at the same time? I don't know, every time people interpreted it as anti-homosexual. Oh, and I remember when one member came out as transgender, he said something really close minded, asking if he was kidding, born a man, that stuff. For the sake of clarification, the person basically went back on his coming out as transgender, I don't know why. Guess how old he is? 15. The other person just kept saying lol, spewed some ridiculous stuff, with an lol at the end, and when he's confronted, he just says lol some more. Memes this, lmao sometimes, whatever. It can get really annoying. Interesting when the second person gets pissed about at least one particular member, one of the hosts actually, when that person is ragged on by outside forces, or within the group itself, he gets super defensive, maybe butthurt. Perhaps that kind of attitude can be attributed to someone in this forum, I don't want to speculate. Anyways, guess how old this person is? 16. Hmm, then again there are people in my age group, early 20s, that talk like that, there are people older that talk like that, but I guess it leads back to having a mindset not dissimilar to an inconsiderate (at best) teenager.

Off-topic: "You're ego" from the logs gave me grammar cancer. Why do people keep misuse "you're" and "your"? "You're" is the short version of "you are" and "your" is a possessive adjective that says that something belongs to you. Seriously, even for non-native english speakers, this is like the first thing you get taught in class.

Sorry for the grammar lesson. Haters gonna hate!

The childish nature of this person is disappointing. Honestly, the best thing you can do, is just not let yourself get butthurt. If you do, they win. Instead of getting mad at their attemps to enrage you with transphobic speech, just laugh at their ignorance and move along. Not saying its always easy, but its really the only way you can "win" an internet fight. Words by themselves hold no power. They are only as meaningful as you let them be.

That being said, thank you so much for Luma3ds, regardless of what some are saying to you. There are countless people everywhere that are very thankful for your effort!

So after all of this evidence, no action will be taken, right?
