Please don't buy digital content from square enix store.

I'm a little frustrated right now about this so if it seem like "Epic rant" type thing, is to be with caution.

So I should start by saying, I bought Final Fantasy VII for pc in 2012 from Square enix store, at the time it was $9.99. I did play it and install it on my pc, it worked and all, no problem. But is not the problem then, is the problem now. I got a new pc, current year is 2017 (5 years later) I wanted to download the game on my new pc, but i can't.

First I was informed square enix was partnered with Digital river, they handled the purchases of content at the time I bought the game. Few months after, sometime in 2013, i dunno, guess they split or whatever. Square enix relocated severs or something and some information was lost.

Anyway, i called square support, the thing i was told is that they can't do anything, i have email proof of purchase, it would be nice to get maybe a steam key to activate in exchange, but no, they said call digital river. So naturally i did, When i did, they told me to call square enix, so naturally this wasn't getting solved, advice, when both sides refuse to settle the problem and tell you to contact the other, is very low almost 0% you are getting your problem handled. So i called back and told them what digital river told me. They suggested buying the game on steam, which i would have done if it was on steam when it was $9.99 in the first place. (For the record, the 2012 release of final fantasy VII was on square enix store first before steam got hold of it.) At the time it was $9.99. Currently on steam and new square enix store is $2 more.

I already bought it once and to hear "you can buy the game again" was not only disappointing but confusing. I understand that there is some rules and regulations and the limit of customer support, but hearing that just left me wondering. Why couldn't they just point me to a link to download the game download manger, or even a steam key to redeem, not "Buy the game again." Basically when you buy the game from the square enix online store, you get access to a link that is the download manager, after you run it, it downloads the required files to install on the pc to play the game. It just left me guessing why people would buy from there with such things go on?

This is why I always seem to buy games on sale, no matter how much i would like to play now, i just can't bring myself to buy games at standard market introduction price. Problems like this is why I don't feel well enough to trust people, I have been involved with trust issues in the past and maybe even still now, it would explain my skepticism, and reason for questioning people to the boiling point. (The part when someone can't take it anymore) All cause of various reasons leading to doubt and protecting myself emotionally.

In my mind is like. "Oh final fantasy VII got pc re-release with some new features, is only $10, well i can try the game again." At the time is happy and no problem. Then is like few years later is a problem. "New pc, i had bought final fantasy VII and my saves are on cloud, i can continue it now. Wait, i can't find the link to download the game." I don't need to buy the game again, i have access to the activation key, i just need the program to install the game, that all, why i was denied that i dunno. So bottom line, i can just buy the game again (WHEN IS ON SALE) or become filthy pirate.

For the record, I never purposely expressed being a pirate, really at this point I honestly feel like doing it. But there been times where guest has used my internet to download things and my ISP notified me of a warning, so I been very cautious of the content i download. Lesson learned, don't buy digital content from square enix store. Always buy from steam.

On another note, if anyone has information that can help me, it would be nice. If you also have a maybe a gift item for steam game i can maybe trade, honestly i never traded any game on steam before, let alone in real life. My games are precious to me, but i noticed some of my steam purchases was multiple copies of some games like skull girls, lethal league left 4 dead 2 and ultra street fighter IV. So I do have the games just extra copies. Honestly i didn't know you can buy more than one copy in single purchase, i wish something like this existed on playstation, xbox or nintendo, that be cool. Buy games and trade or gift.

I can't even remember why I did get more than one. Maybe i was looking to socialize at the time, find some friends with common interest maybe give them games so we can play together or something. Why else would i need multiple copies of games, steam allows redownloading games as long as you have access to the accounts. I think everything should be like that but is not. I guess i made this too long and got off track of my original reason for posting but I think I'm a bit clam now, so i suppose this helped a bit. I'll be waiting for a sale i suppose.

If someone actually read all of this, i should say thank you for being concerned about me, or if you just wanna leave comments about some negativity related insult or unnecessary thing... well i can't stop you but is inevitable, so go on and do it if you must, i know there people out there who can't resist that kind of thing, i'm always seeing it on the forum.

That's messed up. you could sue them and probably win if you have proof that you bought it years ago but for 9.99 I don't see it worth it. However, I second your thought about buying games directly from steam. I bought fallout new vegas for pc and that was a bad decision the disc got scratched and became unusable, that's why i buy from steam. More often then not I always checked to see if there's a steam version of any game I buy before checking my consoles games. I can always re-download at a later time and they work better each time I upgrade my pc.

according to steam

What do you mean by trading Steam Gifts? Can I trade Steam Games?
Any game you’ve purchased from the store as a gift, or received as an Extra Copy, can be traded to other users 30 days after their original purchase. They can be used to trade for other Gifts, or for items in games supporting Steam Trading. If you would like to purchase a gift and save it in your Inventory or use it in a Steam trade at a later time, please choose 'Store the gift in my inventory to send later' when checking out (source )

I don't think is possible to trade a game or give it away unless you bought it as a gift and have not touched them.

Another reason why physical releases are superior.
Once you have the game, the only thing that prevents you from playing it is disc abuse and cd rot,
Which, if you're careful with the discs, shouldn't happen.

@DinohScene I disagree, just because op got this problem. I know with physical copy it's yours and you don't have to download (which isn't a problem if you have fast dl speed). But i prefer digital version (only pc), you can get great deals on origins, steam or others.

@Melachan I know about steam trading and i have steam gifts. I just never done it before, usually i buy a game and sometimes is multiple copies of games, when i add to my library, i have some left over, in my inventory. So far i just had them there with no use other than giving it to someone or trading. Guess i was waiting for to make friend or something, i dunno. I didn't realize it was multiple buy and not single.

You own the game legally so just pirate it, dont use torrents though... thats how they catch you :P

@DinohScene CDs are well and good, but there's no good CD release of FFVII for the PC, unless you want the horrible 98 version  :P

The worst part about some CDs?
They just include download code .txt file. Now you're either way f'ked.

Moral of the story is to backup your installers if you buy DRM free. Live and learn I guess.

Glad i bought final fantasy VIII on steam, which i am playing now, but i'll live, not the end of the world. I was just upset that support wasn't "SUPPORTIVE" which makes me feel a bit ashamed to even consider they would be. I already own the game on ps4 when it was on sale back in feburary, but i wanted to try that 7th heaven program, it supposed to use graphic mods to increase graphics and character models, that why i wanted to try it on my new pc.

Had i known to backup the download manager program i would have, but my google drive is at is limit so i didn't have cloud space for it. How can i support someone who won't support me when i need it. Square enix. :ninja:

FF7 Reunion is far easier to use with the game and replaces all the models. 7th Heaven is a pain it the ass to use.

I never heard of that one, but it doesn't matter now, i can't use it... Oh maybe i can try it on the android port, it might work. :)

FOR GAMERS.... LEEERRRROOOYYYYYY JEEENNNNNKKKKIIINNSSSSS! :P

12 hours later

sorry i failed, i can't beat North american square enix or japan square enix. :ninja:

I've had some experience with bad customer support, and sometimes it doesn't help no matter how many times you complain.
Still, I do think that it's worth trying to call a few more times at different times and see if you can get someone on the phone who's more helpful, or ask to speak to someone higher up, they're in a better position to help you. Try emailing them as well.
If you have the key and proof of purchase I see no reason why they can't provide you with a download. The key must be stored on their servers somewhere so they can check that it's valid and not banned, you shouldn't even really need a proof of purchase.
Maybe the standard customer support representatives don't have the ability to help you but they could talk to someone higher up that does or put you in contact with them directly.

I bought the game in the Steam store back in a sale, obviously didn't have any problems and can still play the game fine.
But I had to do that Square Enix store bullshit to be able to play the game and oh my god it's so fucking annoying.

If they ever take my license like that from me, I'll just download a cracked launcher so I can play a game I already own.

@The Real Jdbye They have probably lost it during the transition, at the time it was both digital river and square enix, digital river handle the vending and sales, but it seem to be split now, from what i was explained. So i doubt that they have any records of it. The only record that could have been provided was my account purchase history which was probably lost during the transition. A redeemable steam key would be nice or just the link for the download manager to install it but suggesting i buy the game AGAIN was just just a mounting of frustration added to my own baggage. :nayps3:
