Huzzah! Blogs are back. So now I can spam them with game impressions without CERTAIN PEOPLE getting upset. So what better way to kick this off than with um... Quantum Conundrum?
I've been playing Metal Gear Solid 4 rather solidly for the past couple of days and I needed to take a break. Not that it's bad, it's just dense. Quantum Conundrum was free on Playstation Plus and I've been mildly interested in the game. I think the best way to describe it is tryhard Portal.
It's not bad by any means, it has some good puzzles and such, but it's literally just trying so hard to be Portal, albeit a bit fluffier and QUIRKY than Portal. So the plot is that you are John deLancie's nephew. When Mr. deLancie isn't fucking with Picard, doing voiceovers for a cancerous children's show, or causing plane crashes, he's doing his best to be the world's best Doc Brown tryhard and Dr. Wily cosplayer. So he invents weird and crazy shit and shows it off to you every time you come by. Except this time when you come in, you find your uncle doesn't greet you with an invention, and instead through some quirky hijinks, is teleported to another dimension. Of course he can still provide an omnipresent voiceover because it wouldn't be a Portal tryhard without it but the main goal is to use his latest invention, a device that changes between multiple dimensions, to bring him back to ours.
Basically each dimension has different properties that affect objects for puzzles, like making them super lightweight so you can carry them or they'll be moved by fans or super heavy to do the opposite. With this you solve puzzles. The puzzles are pretty decent although I will say that first person platform is still quite the nuisance but it's still solid designs.
This game will reek of a Portal rip off and it basically is, but that's still not a bad thing. It's worth a shot and it's currently on PS+ so subscribers might as well give it a shot.
I'll be doing game impressions soon of inFamous franchise (I beat both games and Festival of Blood) and Metal Gear Solid 4 (whenever I beat that).
