Rant about Curiosity Rover

The money it took to send an automated freakin vehicle to FREAKIN SPACE AND LAND IT ON A DUST BALL THOUSANDS OF MILES AWAY cost us less than what the government spends in TWO DAYS in military funding in the middle east. Not to mention, the money isn't being sent to mars. The money is being spent here, so it will be cycled back through the system and...wait for it...BACK INTO THE FREAKIN ECONOMY! Oh, and did I mention that the rover is geared to last for 17 years before the freakin battery drains? Do you know how much knowledge we can acquire in 17 years? Can you even fathom it?

Please, by all means tell me how the Curiosity mission was a waste of money. I dare you.

I read "rant about curiosity rover" and I was prepared to hate you forever, but it was the total opposite of what I thought, so now I love you forever

I don't think Curiosity was a waste of money. I actually argue with those who think so, because they never think long-term nor do they think we need to explore space.

After the first two arguments, I just stopped listening.

Who's dumb enough to think it was a a waste of money?
That money is going right back to us, which will help fix the economy. Not to mention in 17 years we should pretty much have the whole plant's surface explored.

I say a waste of money is the amount of money we spend on the military.
Easy fix. Don't argue with idiots.
I got another easy fix.
Hit 'em with a mallet.

There are actually tons of people actively speaking out against NASA for "wasting money in this economy" just because it's not something that will magically make everything better. Just because the money spent on this mission wasn't gift wrapped with a bow tie and shoved right into their laps. I've just been so sick of hearing about it from my wife's side of the family, and then to read it on blogs, in comments on facebook, etc... Ignorance is everywhere, and I just had to let off some steam.

G
If you want to convince them, then you're going to explain to them why you think it wasn't a waste of money.
Because right now, if I read right, all you've done is show something that is a bigger waste of money, so they'd be like "maybe, but that doesn't prove it wasn't a waste"

Wasting money in this economy??? Are these ppl fuckin serious? REALLY...when the higher ups in our government eat steak(or the equivalent)dinners everyday, prepared not by them but by a private chef, the president and god knows who else has a private jet, pro sports teams are paid obscene amounts of money, cops don't pay for their own gas...fuck! Should I go on??
If these ppl want to bitch about NASA, then maybe NASA should tell them to go to hell and start putting their projects up on the kickstarter program. There would be alot more ppl helping them out than bitching. Anyway, why are they mad about the rover when they still have gay marriage or abortion or stem cell research to fight over? My point is that WAY bigger wastes of money exist in the states. They don't need to pick on NASA. At least they're doing something productive.
I gotta stop ranting before I just go into this huge wall of text about how I hate ppl and the general public are puppets/zombies/morons.

I hear you man. Honestly I think we are actually in the same boat on this one.

I had to argue with my parents about it, if it makes you feel any better. See how stubborn I am? Imagine that four times worse. That's my parents when they argue. Only those with closed minds argue that space exploration is a waste of time. I rather spend that time on something other than arguing with them about it because that too, is a waste of time.

Earth won't be here forever nor will we be able to live here for as long as we think the way we're killing the planet and its resources. Space exploration helps dig us out of the deep hole we dug ourselves into. I just hope when we do find a habitable planet, that we learned our lesson with Earth and not drain that one of resources, too.

People want money in their pockets right now, they want to see change right now, they want everything to happen right now, but never really stop to think about the future or why it's important to think about.

Society doesn't seem to care about the future let alone their own futures these days. Intelligence is fading rapidly and it's pretty embarrassing. People would rather watch Basketball Wives than learn about the universe or something worth learning.

But on the bright side, it just makes me want to get away from them and onto another planet even more :toot:

Sorry, didn't mean to make this post so long.
