Smiley's Dream Log #22 - The ‘Nailed’ Tower of Babel

Remember that tale about the Tower of Babel that tried to explain why there are multiple languages? Imagine if it actually happened, was more thin and medieval tower-like and, instead of being destroyed, it was nailed into the ground, creating a hellevator, with only about 20 metres of the top still sticking out.
The tower was in the middle of a city, on a raised piece of ground. It had a caretaker and two guardians. If you wanted to descend it, you had to go through the caretaker first: she was an elderly lady who, if you were deemed worthy, would send you off on a ski lift-like structure, which was the only way to access the tower. One of the guardians was an elderly man, the other some kind of bipedal creature with no neck and large teeth.
I went to explore the tower with my grandma, but I woke up before I started descending it. However, the entirety of the tower was mapped out on Google Maps, so you could explore it virtually.

EDIT: I remembered an additional detail. The city the tower was in was very Greek-looking, but its people spoke Italian.
