Fwiw, I mostly just emulate melee, which I actually own. Having/using an emulator does not inherently mean piracy, and for many simply allows people to play games they own but may not have the original hardware in working, playable state for. Additionally, emulators allow for greater functionality not offered on vanilla hardware.

I've been playing a souped up Persona FES via PCSX2 and it looks much better than any other way I could have played it (and it's a full party control rom hack)

it's more the double standard and toxic nature of it all @incredius if you read the fbi warningf on movies copying a movie (or game in this matter) is still unlawful yes I don't agree with it cause some game prices are super inflated these days a good example is Pokemon hg/ss the game came out for 30-35 USD today however it is inflated to $55+ and that's used w/o the pokewalker so yeah though i disagree with the DMCA and the unfair inflation of some games but it is what it is

Making copies of your own games/movies isn't illegal. It's the unauthorized redistribution of said copies that is.

hg/ss inflated because it has a very small print to other games. There's tons of fake cartridges floating through ebay because of it. I can't say I've ever really used retroarch. I'd use psxe to play my digimon world 3 and maybe some hacks to level up faster so I didn't have to grind as much to enjoy the storyline. There's so many emulators that focus on specific consoles retro felt like a jack of trades master of none.

I think emulators do impact sales, why buy the switch if you can play an emulator of it. Where Game leaks like Pokemon leaked early generally impacts only the sales for the game. I don't hardly touch my 3ds lately because i could play it on 4k instead of a 240p screen. Piracy just was never super huge for a long time because internet infrastructure was at a low well we had places like blockbusters.

I don't have hatred for the emulators or those that want homebrew, but with homebrew comes unsigned code and and it feels to really kill a console. Half the 3ds's I see on craigslist are modded B9s
And I hate to see that as a cultural norm in society. It just reshapes the mind sets people/ children alike will have buying games if they think all games should be free.

Yes emulators are to 99% used for piracy. But this isn't really the right place for drama. You need to talk with Retroarch.
