Spending problem

One of the things I have to get off my mind. I might have a spending problem. I spent about $375 in about two weeks. What did I spend most of it on? I spent it on mostly video games. Even when I was working back in November and December, I spent most of my paychecks on video games, and food. When I am given money, my mind immediately goes to video games. How do you break this habit so I don't spend money any chance I get? I just want to be able to save the money so I can move out and live on my own.

I used to be the same, I'd get paychecks and money and blow them all on games or Magic cards. But then I decided to take up my own Xbox Live payment and Netflix so I'm paying about $13/month between the two. Nowadays if I go splooge on something (which I did with my Vita) I suffer the consequences (no Netflix at the moment and Live is gonna run out soon).

This week I just spent $100 + $330 + $170 on CDs, anime straps/tapestries, and plain old anime itself, in that order.
Ain't got no spending problems >_>

As long as you're spending within your limit, it isn't REALLY a problem. I spend a fucking ton on random collectible crap, but my bank still has an average of $1000 in it at all times, my credit card ALWAYS paid off within days of a charge, because I just don't spend outside what I earn.
It's actually a good thing, to a degree. I have a fantastic credit rating because I spend tons and always pay it off, haha.

If you absolutely want to save money, it's easy. You can actually open an investment account with your bank. Money you put into it is a bit of a pain to get out (usually you need to physically GO to your bank to get money out). It makes spending your money more difficult, and thus you save it a lot easier. If you just want to save a bunch to move out, this is the best option. If you earn a paycheck you can also set up automatic deposits in-sync with your paychecks. I don't even notice chunks of my paycheck automatically being taken anymore lol.

Guild's idea works unless you're forgetful, lol. I just have a bunch of monthly subs that take from me every month so I sooometimes forget about them and end up spending more than I mean to. If not, subs definitely help you be more conscious of your spending.

I know what you mean, I have a bad very bad spending habit myself. Hell I'm on welfare since I haven't found a job yet and before I even got my first check it's all going to be gone already.

Because I agreed to buy my brother's PS Vita for $400 bucks.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

    but that's a long shot

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
