The Cruel Irony Of Air Conditioning

The Cruel Irony Of Air Conditioning

here's a honourable mention: NOW I REALIZE WHY SAITAMA doesn't want to use air conditioning xD

the billions of people issue is NEVER EASY to resolve, and it's only resolvable with good politician, usually finding good ones is THE HARDEST part of it.

the problem is not entirely impossible: humans at the moment are still very fossile-depedent, we have to switch slowly to renewable energy, that means more investment and developing, which requires a lot of time and energy, but the profit is far more than coal+fossil energy.

The billions of people issue will never be resolved unless you start resolving it by eliminating the problem quite literally, there's not a single politician that will change that. Unless that politician is Kim Jong best korea leader.

The example solutions they give in that video aren't easy to do and will bring their own share of problems.
You can't just go and tell people "Hey, you know what, you all can go change your roof to be bright white so it reflects the sun" or "hey, lets change all the walls of a ton of buildings".
Planting trees for shade, wonderful!
Now lets see what happens with all the bug infestations that happen. (in the netherlands specifically that stupid caterpillar)

Point being, they oversimplify how it can be resolved. Sure, it can be resolved with that, theoretically speaking. Practically it's near impossible, but hey.

Which is why solar powered air conditioners are a thing so strongly pushed, exploiting the very sun driving that's heating a place to cool it. There's also evaporative coolers, but they rely upon fresh water to function and that's precisely what you don't want to waste in cooling in deserts. The funny thing is, replace "air conditioner" with "fan" which also can function to displace heat and it starts to sound silly. You'll end up needing to drink more water to stay cool, and that water likely requires being treated and pumped, and there's a much more immediate fresh water crisis looming.

In any case, I don't see it as a cruel irony any more than it's a cruel irony that burning natural gas which heats your home also heats the planet. Like leon315, there needs to be a move towards renewables (and possibly nuclear). We're finally at the point that solar is often the wisest investment precisely because of decades of work to improve solar panel costs.

the solar powered boiler is already a thing, and it helps family to save 300$ of year usage, but statically the global warming is due to the dependent to coal/fossil energy, @DBlaze u maybe still don't know, all countries are investing on renewable energy like windmill, solar or hydro-electric energy, while electric cars become more and more efficient and cheaper, more people will likely switch to an affordable powered cars, this will reduce inevitably CO2, less CO2, less global warming.

plus investing in renewable energy will create more jobs than any coal/fossil based one and has less impact on nature.

edit: i'm not a scientist, but i still managed to make this topic clear enough, right?

I assumed it was obvious that air conditioners blow hot air out the back and heat up the immediate environment, let alone that the energy they use and the chemicals they contain are damaging. It staggers me that enough people don't realise all of this that videos like this have to be made. Personally I think air conditioners in domestic settings should be illegal. If the climate in the country you live in isn't comfortable then you should emigrate to a colder one.

@arcanine nope, the entire point is to let people know the impact if everyones start using air conditional.

@alexander1970 i've never used air until my age of 29, guess everyone shall take part to save the earth.

Likewise.I HATE it that cars today have less and less normal ventilation.I hate THAT.

@leon315 i never said the topic wasn't clear, what do you not understand that I just think the solutions aren't as easy as they are presented? I am not against it and I don't think we shouldn't do anything about it, I am just skeptical that it's this easy to solve.
Renewable energy from windmills and solar things and such are wonderful, but those things have to be placed somewhere too, meaning you have to make space for them somewhere.
Meaning you have to start destroying natural habitat.
Not to mention the amount it would take to actually be viable to run a country, let alone run the world.

Again, the solutions presented by people are oversimplified. While they are solutions, they are not that easy to be put in place in a way that it starts being a very viable alternative to what we have at this moment.
And nuclear energy scares the crap out of people.

Guys, I totally agree with most of you, the air conditioners are really harmful to our environment, however we do not really have an alternative. I mean, especially the people that are living closer to the equator, where you got at least 35 celcius degrees during the summer, you really need an air conditioner.
