Video games and the future

I'm a teen. I play video games. I like it...

People around me, whether it be school friends or family, like my parents, some of these people tell me to grow up since i'm so into video games.
I noticed there are a lot of people around here who're adults and are avid gamers. I just don't know how to deal with the popular opinion that video games are a sign of immaturity.
It's kind of hard to deal with, since now, I do play less games. The idea is getting to me.

Should I really let this get to me? I'm kind of having a war with myself because I'm not sure whether i should or shouldn't actually "grow up" and let go of the game controller...

Just tell them you will grow up and you'll give all your video games to a little sibling or relative. Then show them Grand Theft Auto with all that violence/swearing/gore/sexual reference all that shit. Now lets see them say that games are only for kids.

Just do what you want.

Yeah, but then people like my parents will look down upon me. It'll bother me often, just thinking about it. It's cause I know they have a absolute opinion on something like this.

Don't let them get to you mate. I'm 26 and still an avid gamer, i play a little less than i used to that true, but thats down to work and a few open source projects im currently involved in.

Games are a way to escape the humdrum normalness of your day. Back in the 19th century it was books people back then used to say that reading fiction was a pointless waste of time and a sign of immaturity. For a lot of the 20th century it was TV.

My advice is to throw up a middle finger and tell them " Hey this is they way I like to relax. You do < insert past time here > to relax this is the way I do it "

I still play games a lot, and ask for them for my birthday and christmas. I often feel like by asking for so many games, my grandparents and family are disappointed I couldn't be more interested in books, sport, the kind of things grandparents can be proud of. At the end of the day, games aren't all about who you are. It's important to play them less as you get older, but completely letting go just because of what amounts to peer pressure is silly.

As long as you get the balance where you're getting you're work done, and it doesn't cost too much then you have every right to game. I know I'll carry on gaming for as long as I live, but toning it down from my obsessive playing is gonna be important.

What I reply when someone say video game, or anime are for kids : Do you think kids are making them ? it needs adults to make them, and of course it needs that they are interested in what they are making, so it's ok for adults to like it.
That's just bad excuses for not being rejected, what people do are the best of course, and if you like something they don't, you are the weird one !

That's totally right, and it's the same with all form of art evolution : Cinema is very bad !!! it will render theater worthless and will cease to exist., next it was TV is bad, it will render cinema worthless, then it was TV recorder which would render TV program worthless. Tape recorder to radio, and Now it's CD writer and MP3 which are making the CD selling bad. Books, theater, TV, cinema and CD still exists, and will.

I second this statement here

Nothing is wrong in liking games. Hell, even if an 80 yers old geezer says he likes HALO 3, then what in the world can anybody in this world say?

Everything "childish" was made by adults, in that case, were those adults childish? For God's sake NO! They're probably better in most ways than people who say "games are for children"

Of course, the same cannot be said for games intended for children. There are games for all (sentient) ages, if you're playing games for your age, no stuck up jerk can say you're wrong for doing so.

video games are fun at times, just to entatain yourself...but people in my school play video games almost everyday, but i don't really say anything
