Yes it's true they could do math but it took way longer - and they were less precise as the people doing the math by hand made mistakes and there was no easy way to make sure they did it right

If you were a money lender having a calculator would go a long way - and if you went a bit further in the future you could work for architecture firms calculating angles etc
Okay, but what will you do when battery runs out?
CHECK MATE SCIENCE BELIEVER!

The true smart man should bring one of those old calculators with the tiny solar panel on it

Ah, a man of culture.

Just wondering, @x65943 would it make a difference if you brought a Texas Instruments, like those that can display graphs?

I mean, instead of doing additions anc substractions, you could impress everyone with graphs too. Consider calculating exactly geometry, trigonometry, even calculations requiredfor land measurements.

Haha OK, so you've managed to time travel - as soon as you get to the place armed with your calculator you get a small job somewhere so you can get money to buy some clothes and feed yourself. Between working you then need to hunt down a non-existant architecture firm to get a job with. Once employed you save up some money so you can then lend it out at x% interest to someone that offers you a chicken in return. During this time of working, saving lending, you managed not to be lynched for being a witch and everybody paid up, you avoided wars and being killed or getting ill and made your fortune.

Hmmmm, why not just take a book with you with winning lottery numbers, go back to last year and win all the worlds lotterys. It would save you a lot of time and a lot of effort and you'd achieve the same outcome without the dangers.

You know there are more years than the year 100 right?

You could go to 1850 for instance xD

I'll do all of you a favor--I'll screencap bits of "news" on my cellphone and show God before he creates anything after animals.
If that doesn't work for you, I'll bring a fully charged cordless drill on Noah's Ark riiiiight before it starts to float.
If that still doesn't work for you, I want a fully war-ready aircraft carrier and the general direction of Constantine--I'm fucking a lot of peoples moms.

I'd take a time machine, so I could travel in time forever.
I wonder whether you would run into a back to the future type scenario where the fuel you need for the time machine doesn't exist in the past

How many jigawatts [sic] of power would that thing need?

The moral of the story is if you are making up a time machine, then don't make one up that requires an external fuel source.

You do know that we all pronounce giga wrong & doc brown was correct? We should have been referring to hard drives as jig-a-bytes as well.

Giga is a Greek word and the gamma is definitely a hard G in that word

So I disagree

1888, The year before Hitler was born, I'd take a gun and shoot both his parents. WW2 would have been prevented and millions of people would not have needlessly died. You're welcome!
Sink the ship from Christopher Columbus...
Even Hitler would be solved, he would not have the idea, money and support from usa.
In 1928, Hitler remarked, approvingly, that white settlers in America had “gunned down 5 million of redskins to a few hundred thousand.”
And 90-95% wars would have been prevented.

charging a phone in 1999? lol i don't think its gonna be much of an issue
i don't think it's a "bring a smart phone back to the 1400's" type situation(what do you do when the battery runs out)
Would be annoying more than anything. Would have to make your own custom charging method.
