Hogwarts Legacy Switch port gets delayed even further

header.jpg

Hogwarts Legacy has seen its third delay, at least, when it comes to the Nintendo Switch version of the game. Originally due out in late 2022, then pushed back to July 25th, Warner Bros. Games has given the port yet another delay, this time to November 14th. The game is already available on all other platforms, including the also delayed last-gen ports on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, which finally came out last week.

Oof. Three delays? And how many delays did Mighty No. 9 have again? Three?!

Yeah, definitely not looking good for the Switch port. From where I'm looking, at this point it's now either release on November 14, or cancel the entire port if they can't. Because any more delays will definitely spell the death of the Switch version.

Nintendo does a six-month lead time. If we haven't heard about a "New Super Switch 64" by July, it's not happening this year. If we haven't heard about it by November, it's probably not happening next year either.
we had the switch announced with a teaser in like october to be released in march so yeah when nintendo shows the console they are preety much 6 month away at best lol.

I really don't understand why Nintendo won't make a powerful console.
At this stage of the game (no pun intended) it seems like the most logic step to make.

Why punish developers and consumers to get downgraded watered down and delayed ports of popular games when they can just step aboard the next gen train?

I've read numerous excuses on this matter. Some of those being; "Graphics are not everything" and "We do it to keep our products cheap and accessible to everyone" (even though in Mexico a Nintendo Switch is almost the same in price as a PS5) so that's bullshit.

Also, I've seen that even the XBOX Series X has troubles/framedrops with this particular game.
But that might be also because Warner Brothers and Sony worked together to create a better experience in PS5 than other platforms... that being said... if developers didn't bothered with the XBOX... what can consumers expect for a Switch port?
Mexican taxation is no issue for Nintendo. Switch is by far the cheapeast console in most markets around the world. Right now, if you get a discount, you may get 2 Switch or a Switch and a handful of games for less than a Series S.

Wasn't trying to deviate the conversation to prices.
Just stating that Nintendo's reasons to not make a powerful console are bullshit.

Instead of trying to port it they should have just made an original version for the switch, as how companies did in the Wii days where the Wii got it own custom version that took advantage of ita strength, advantage of that is it runs well and people that own multiple systems would buy both versions as they are different games. Then maybe offer the current gen version as a cloud option so that switch owners could still play that version instead of a crippled down version and have their own special version.

This is the kind of game I don't see working well on the Switch, the hardware is just too old.

Yeah I would probably have bailed on this and just moved to a cloud release unless they're really so financially deep on switch to justify this many more months

I think if they actually manage to come out with a port that looks fine and runs at a solid framerate, the delay will be worthwhile.

I just have a nasty feeling it’ll look trash and play worse, regardless of how much they push it back.
That seems pretty likely. Due to the differences between architectures and the specs of the Switch devs either need to build a Switch specific version like Apex Legends and Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal got from Panic Button (so either super customized or completely rebuilt for Switch) rather than use the cross platform options engines offer. Games like the Alan Wake remaster and The Sinking City would've looked and run so much better that way, and I know for a fact they largely just tweaked settings in Unreal Engine to make the game work on Switch because the developers made videos talking about it and showing what was done.

nintendo prefers not to compete with sony or microsoft directly and make a cheaper alternative, where people own ps5 or xbsx plus a nintendo console.

why would nintendo just make a boring home box? they are fine with hybrid system, im sure switch 2 will be close to steam deck maybe so that will play current gen games at reasonable framerates/resolutions imo.
