I'm playing a rom hack using nds forwarder. The home screen banner displays the name and creator of the original game rather than of the rom hack. I try to change it using dsbuff, but when I do this the game won't run and shows a white screen. It runs perfectly otherwise.

Anyone know why this happens or how to fix it?

Hi, I have a question. This might be a stupid question because I'm very new to modding a 3ds. If you were to change the sd card that holds the CFW and the games and all, does it automatically 'uninstall' it on the device? As in, is the 3ds how it would come in the box if you buy it, factory reset? Or is the CFW installed on the device itself instead of on the sd card?

Thanks

are u wanting to change to a bigger sd card? i would just copy everything on the sd card with the cfw on it and put it on the other sd card u are wanting to use.

No. the cfw isn't on the sd card. its merely a payload to boot the console with. the actual cfw is written to the guts of the 3ds. which with write protection it has. even factory resets won't remove cfw.

Standard procedure is to copy everything off the SD card (use Roadkil's Unstoppable Copier to avoid surprises), format the card, test the empty card with h2testw, and copy everything back if the test is okay.

After the successful running of h2testw I copied everything back to my 3ds and booted it up, To my disappointment not only did it not fix my problem it also made my fabulous secret powers menu theme vanish!

EDIT: I fixed the theme issue by entering and reinstalling the theme using anemone3ds but when I quit the software it gave me ERRDISP SD card removed?

What SD card do you have?

That suggests your 3DS isn't reading your SD card at all anymore. If you bring up the Luma config menu (by holding Select when powering on your 3DS), does it say it's booting from CTRNAND on the bottom screen, or from the SD?

If it's not reading your SD card, then you can try getting a new one. Hopefully the SD card slot in your 3DS isn't messed up somehow.

Okay... Inside the Nintendo 3DS folder, there should be exactly one folder with a long random name. (That long random name is the "ID0".) Inside that folder there should also be exactly one folder with a long random name. (That other long random name is the "ID1".) Do you have multiple folders in either case?

I missed this edit earlier. That's definitely not supposed to happen.

Rather than try to mess around with this any further, at this point a new SD card would probably be the best idea. Assuming you left the files on your PC, you can just copy them over to the new card (after formatting and testing it).

but I ran h2testw and error checking. The SD card should not be the problem.

And yet, here we are. What else do you think is supposed to cause "ERRDISP SD card removed" ?
I deleted a file labelled 00030800 that was not in a folder with no file type. Here are the results:

Well, there's absolutely no reason just deleting a file should cause something like that to happen, and I really wouldn't expect this to be the end of your problems. (At least you have a backup of your card now.) Nor is there any reason that file (or any other file) should mysteriously appear. Was it just sitting in the root of your SD card?

More details would help. Was that file there before you copied the files off the card, or did it appear afterwards? Did you remove the SD card and put it in your PC in order to delete that file, or did you somehow delete it within your 3DS?

It was in titles and I deleted it in pc. I responded twenty minutes late because I have been playing earthbound on the 3ds in question.

You mean it was in Nintendo 3DS\[id0]\[id1]\titles ? It would be useful if you would kindly answer the other questions: was it there before you copied the files off the card, or did it appear afterwards?

https://www.3dbrew.org/wiki/Title_list/Patches notes that a folder named 00030800 would be associated with Mario Kart update data, so at least it's not completely unrelated to what you were doing – but there's no reason there should be files there, nor is there any reason it should suddenly cause everything to disappear.

Anyway, since you took your card out and put it back in again, it's possible there was some kind of loose contact in the slot.
