Just last week, on Tuesday, February 26th, 2024, news broke out about the Yuzu emulator team being sued by none other than Nintendo themselves, with Nintendo claiming that the emulator apparently allowed users to play certain games early (due to street dates being broken) and also allowing piracy of the current Nintendo Switch system.

Today, in a rather surprisingly quick manner, it seems like Tropic Haze LLC., the company behind the Yuzu team, has reached a settlement with Nintendo in regards to the lawsuit. According to a recent official document uploaded just a few minutes ago, Tropic Haze will pay up 2.4 million USD in favour to Nintendo, with both parties agreeing in the settlement and its amount.

UPDATE: According to the proposed Final Judgement and Permanent Injunction document, Yuzu as a whole in its current form will cease to exist, meaning no further development and prohibition of any distribution of built or source code forms of it.

The most interesting thing is, the thing Nintendo seems to have clinged onto is the broken street dates situation. And I agree. I had TOTK preordered for example, and got it early. Then I see people uploading videos and streaming play throughs 10 days before release, and remember thinking, 'This is not cool, and is a bad image for emulation'. This proves it was not backed up from a legitimately owned copy, regardless of the intention to buy it (Including myself stating I preordered it), We get what the emulator 'can' be used for, but this need to steam and show gameplay just gives Nintendo, in the case', everything they need to claim it's for piracy, and how can you not?

As for Citra being shut down... Don't shut down eShops for ditigal users and not atleast give people the chance to play games they own again. Citra is needed, or port then to switch, play in portrait mode, and have them free to download for people that own those 3DS titles. Yuzu I get, people messed up, but Citra? What do expect people to do?

i dont agree in case of emulators and gray areas.
Also, thats why they should be passion projects, something you do in free time and not something that distracts you from life.

This was one of my arguments when people found out they were being sued. People already know Nintendo is pretty damn trigger-happy. Why paint a target on yourself by accepting donations and rewarding those people with the latest build of a software that Nintendo REALLY doesn't like?

for same reason i dont understand why rom sites and other emulator sites promote themself on google for example "yuzu - the nintendo switch emulator" like...no, dont say that...lay low man, youre not doing charity or helping puppues!

i mean....emulators and roms and other tools, hacks, mods, where always niche and in the corner of internet, always contraversial, but lately i see them surfacing, so imo it wasnt really a surprise but more like a matter of time.

also dont buy new game or preorder. buy used games lol that way nintendo cant profit and you will share game when you finish it (sell it) and share with a new person who wants it.
