Yes, new dol confirmed working correctly on all 3 Wii's with 248 [38] installed. Tested on 9 Wii Games and 9 WiiWare games.

Unfortunately i do not have SpongeBob Boating Bash to test that game but all else is golden here through SD only setup now.
thanks so much for testing and narrowing it down to base 38. and xflak for pointing out that there isn't a base 38 for wii u vwii. your findings helped me easily come up with a fix.

Guys, sorry for bother, but I am making a pretzel on my mind.

Seems there is no consensus about the recommended base for cIOS 249.

On the post https://gbatemp.net/threads/d2xl-cios-a-fork-of-davebaols-d2x-cios.558581/#post-8968173 I understand IOS base 57 is the most used and compatible with most games. so cIOS 250 is recommended with IOS base 56

Also the wiki https://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/Wii_cIOS_base_Compatibility_List have the same recommendations.

(I know booth are some old posts)

But on ModMii recomends cIOS 249 with IOS base 56 and cIOS 250 with base 57

Please let me know more documentation for get peace on my mind.

Regards.

249 [57] was preferred because base [57] was thought to be faster loading but pparently it is not faster or not noticable.

I think [56] may be slightly more game compatible but [57] compatibility is also excellent. Call of Duty, Just Dance, Guitar Hero and a few other games require a specific base but otherwise both 56 and 57 play 99.5% of the entire Wii library.

I think it just makes sense to have 56, 57, 58 in loading sequence even though i kept base 57 in 249 for years until maybe 2 years ago. I always say don't fix things that are not broken or try to reinvent the wheel. If you have 57 installed in 249, you will never know the difference only with very few games, and the same goes for 249 [56] setup.

Read this again
https://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/Wii_cIOS_base_Compatibility_List

It outlines how base 56 was recommended in slot 249, then how it switched to base 57, then how it switched back to base 56, and why

@impeeza

Comparing my 3 syschecks to yours, they are quite different. It looks like your main cIOS are up to date and all else might be fine, here are differences i notice for reference ...

IOS11
IOS20
IOS30
IOS40
IOS50
IOS52
IOS60
IOS70
IOS80

Hermes installs are also different between our consoles. I am no expert, it is very possible your setup is fine, just wanted to follow up and assist if a ModMii update was necessary.

Perhaps @jeannotte or @XFlak will see this and confirm if you indeed are fine or if you could use an update.

Those are mostly old system menu ios slots, stubs there are fine unless u are running an old system menu. U only need the system menu ios for the system menu you are running. 80 for 4.3 for most ppl

A patched system menu ios has some benefits, but nothing that would impact homebrew. Basically it allows u to run fakesigned content that has been moved to the official sd card menu. It used to also enable rc24, but now a patched system menu ios is no longer required

Edit: and if u have modmii's extra brick protection enabled, it will install a special system menu ios to those slots to prevent bricks from accidental downgrades/user error

@fledge68 someone I know was having problems with WiiFlow Lite 5.5.4. 5.5.3 works fine, but 5.5.4 goes to a screen which is black then goes to the Wii Menu. We tried replacing the cIOS and stuff with the newest recommendation version, and we had reformatted its USB to be FAT32 rather than NTFS, yet it still wouldn't work. They're happy with using 5.5.3 for now, and this is an issue on multiple games (New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Mario Kart Wii). Did something happen with the upgrade from 5.5.3 to 5.5.4 that broke compatibility? I'd like to know

It's failing to load the app or failing to load games?

There's a new auto cios option, and the latest official release likes base 38 cios in cases where it shouldn't. A few posts back is a mediafire link from fledge with a fix for this issue. Alternatively adjust the cios slot setting for each game. U may have done this already, but if u didn't then installing other cios's was probably a pointless exercise.

Edit: here's a link to it

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
