I was wondering that.... also what about Cafiine?

All the other -iines have their function in the name (Dumpiine=Dump, Saviine=Save,Loadiine=Load,etc...) But Cafiine only seems to stem from the Wii U's Cafe OS, but it's not exactly known to replace system files.

Then again, replaciine just....doesn't....no

My guess is that it is a play of words.
First the double "ii" which comes from Mii and Wii, and all other Nintendo stuff referencing it, and there's also Project Cafe which was a codename for the Wii U.
Also, there's the Starbuck and Espresso procesors on the Wii U, which only adds to the coffee theme to it.
So instead of Caffeine you got Caffiine, and the rest of the apps just followed this base for their name.

The working title of the Wii U was "Project Café", which is where Caffiine came from. Loadiine spawned directly from Caffiine
I know that part.... but I was wondering why? Cafiine isn't exactly most known to replace system files (in fact, I'm not even sure if it can), but it was one of the first homebrew (and if it was the first it'd explain it)

Yeah, I agree with that.

The suffix's origin has been explained better than I could explain it, so I'll just stick to saying yes; Cafiine can replace system files.

EDIT: But it's only useful if you can actually edit system files. Why else would you replace them?

Nice, thanks for clarifying (Cafe OS, and Starbucks key, you can tell Nintendo worked late nights in the Wii U:rofl:)
Starbuck was actually just a nickname for the SoC security processor given by fail0verflow. They coined Starlet for the Wii as well, which had official code names like Hollywood and Broadway.

Anyway, people have been using ii in Wii homebrew for years. It's natural that it would carry on to the Wii U, since Nintendo was dumb enough not to pick a fresh name. One of my apps was called InspectMii.

The name Wii U proves that Nintendo isn't exactly up for fresh names (keep in mind the extensive Game Boy Brand, and 3DS.... I actually like that one)

chadderz made the original two modding tools, TCPGecko which was based on Gecko.NET but used entirely through a codehandler and the TCP protocol, and Cafiine which was to replace files, if I remember correct he didn't know what to call it, someone suggested Caffeine but with two ii's like Wii and Wii U and it just stuck, Saviine, Dumpiine, Loadiine all came after the OSDriver exploit was released to the public and golden45 started all these adaptations based on my leak of Cafiine (oops) cause I didn't have a chance to release it properly with the ported addresses and golden did it themselves, made a 1.1 and a 1.2 which can also dump individual files, was also super useful
This was like Febuary and March last year that I got them from chadderz as the OSDriver exploit first started succeeding then

Starbuck... Starlet.

Huh both even have "Star" on them, talk about coincidence.

Compared to who? Number Station? LetterBox Firstbutitsactuallythethird? I miss Sega.

There needs to be a thread for suggesting homebrew names (and maybe even apps) that follow this naming mechanic!

For example:

  • Playinne- a media player
  • Cameraiine- an app for taking pictures and recording videos with the GamePad camera
  • Recordiine- an audio recorder for the GamePad microphone
  • Remappiine- a controller button remapper
  • Fileiine- a file manager
  • Tempiine- a GBATemp client
  • Clockiine- a clock app with a customizable interface
  • Chloriine- a swimming pool upkeep simulator where the pool is on the GamePad, and you use the GamePad to perform maintenance tasks
