When it comes down to it Gateway released a good product, it kickstarted the 3DS scene. Gateway have also stood by their product and released constant updates for it spanning almost 3 years. It's got more updates than most mobile phones ever get...

As i've always said, Gateway might not be as relevant now however it was a great product at the time. Gateway also did a lot long before the CFW scene got going, the CFW scene has borrowed stuff from Gateway and Gateway have done the same.

Sadly some people are just toxic which is the real problem... we have a great example already in this thread:

Go back to your own site, stupid Gateway sales representative. Gateway cards are pieces of shit, along with their entire company. Whether the whole CFW community is just as shitty is a different discussion. Using a Gateway card is dangerous, pointless, and unsafe. Everything that Gateway does, CFW does 3 times better. While it may be true that they were around first, and there is nothing wrong with being grateful for that, they are just flat-out obsolete.

Yeah, write it impossible to brick a system with a .CIA, but with a .3ds its extremely easy (impossible). And to copy a 2gb file to an SD card takes way longer than installing it with the slow CIA managers...

Yes, Gateway is lagging behind CFW nowadays with it taking months for them to get new features that CFW already has, if they even bother adding the features, and yes, there is not much point in buying a Gateway anymore, but there is also no point in being hostile and going on about how shit the Gateway is in every thread that mentions it. Most people are already aware of all those things, but to many people the benefits outweigh the downsides, why can't you just accept that and leave it be? Posts like these don't contribute to anything.

It's the same thing as the A9LH vs Menuhax argument. One is better than the other but people go to such lengths to voice their opinion that it just devolves into shitposting and trash talking and it's turning the 3DS section into a shit heap.

I cannot honestly believe there are still people defending Gateway. They deliberately bricked units, their product is expensive, their coding is stolen and dodgy. CFW is free, brick proof, doesnt require a DRM cart, and is easy to use

Yes, of course, because the benefits of having a working console don't outweigh the risks of spending 20 minutes setting up CFW. No one talks shit about Gateway until people make stupid threads like these saying Gateway is our lord and savior and that it's the best thing to ever happen to the 3DS. I think you guys are misinterpreting "Don't use Gateway. CFW is better." as "OMFG HOW DARE YOU USE GATEWAY SO BAD EWWW GROSS!!1!"

Downgrading or upgrading? The need for games with exploits all depending on the firmware version you are on... and so on... and the alh9 3ds downgrade adventure is even one step further.
Then find cia's, there were 3ds roms are more easy to find.... convert them and install them.

So back to gateway: My O3DS is still on 4.5 and with mset exploit starting it is as easy as it gets. Drap and drop the 3ds rom on the sd-card....done!!
Perhaps the sky3ds is better for noobs? CFW seems nice but hardly plug-and-play.

To get a CFW running IS pretty much plug and play. And Free

All you need to do is copy and paste a few files, reinstall the mset exploit and you're done. Thats it. Getting Gateway running and getting CFW is pretty much an identical process.

Also, getting cias is now 1000% easier, since you can dl and install from Nintendo's servers straight up. And getting cias has never been harder than getting 3ds files.

Except using CFW is even easier. Turn on your 3DS. Open up freeShop. Select the game you want. Wait a couple minutes for it to install. (Depends on how big the game is. Obviously it will take a lot longer to install bigger games, but since most people have really slow SD Card adapters, it's usually faster then copying to an SD Card anyways.)

i only use the r4 sdhc and r4 gold (the first for my brother with the launcher of @Apache Thunder for dtts clones) and the other for me and is the only flascart worth it atm (cause 3dsmume look pretty good)

ok this is completely wrong, gateway bricks its clones, not completely different flashcarts. sky3ds is completely irrelevant in this case.

i really enjoy the fact that virtually no one read the op in full. they just saaw the title and decided to send their elitist replies. i can't say i didn't expect this, with my observance of the 3ds scene on gbatemp, shit like that is basically commonplace.
