Sure, nothing physical (3DS or Wii U) will be backwards compatible but what about the eShop versions of various 3DS and Wii U games? Sure physical BC has been ruled out but since we can possibly link our NNIDs to our NS systems, they could make almost every one of Nintendo's past console and handheld library of games, playable in digital form; I see NES, SNES, N64, GB, GBC, and GBA being no issue. But for the more modern consoles/handhelds; Wii, Wii U, DS, and 3DS, that could be a problem.

DS, 3DS, and Wii U used touch screens and sometimes two screens but I think that can be fixed (at least with DS and 3DS games) where the screen on the left is the top screen and the screen on the right is the bottom screen, or vise versa. The Wii U's official VC DS emulator allows you to change the screen layouts (except you can't have them left and right), only sideways, small screen and big screen, and original DS boarder screen. The NS could fix that problem but dropping touchscreen support would be bad, very bad! We have been using touchscreens on Nintendo consoles for like 12 years now and they better not drop that. Even if we don't need a stylus to play DS, 3DS, and Wii U games; at least that's no big deal. Besides, a lot of my DS cartridges aren't being read by my DS/DSi/3DS/N3DS that well. As for Wii games, they use motion controls. Whether or not, Wiimotes and numchucks are BC or not; this would be Nintendo controllers for 2 generations ago and usually BC only goes back by 1 generation, they could still release a special controller for Wii games. I mean we have over 20+ Wii games on the Wii U eShop right now and if they're not BC with the NS, then Nintendo wasted its time on adding them to the Wii U eShop. Same goes with DS VC games, if the NS cannot play them. Just because physical BC has been axed off, doesn't mean digital BC has.

What do you guys think about BC for the NS? If BC is axed off completely, then the NS will be an even bigger failure that the Wii U.

i agree on the fact that they shouldn't give up on touch screen so abruptly
but what do you mean by left screen right screen?
The left screen shows the top DS/3DS screen and the right screen shows the bottom or they could even be reversed. Its on a single screen but a splitscreen, similar to the way the Wii U runs the DS VC games. Hell, even the 2DS only has a single screen that splits the top and bottom screens.

oh ok, never used wii u ds vc
It's alright, it could be better. I only use the sideways screens for games like WarioWare: Touched! and for others like NSMB and AC:WW, I use the little and big screens. Not sure if I use the sideways or the little/big dual screens for the Zelda games, though.

Problem is the architecture differences, IBM PowerPC vs ARM; they would have to use emulation instead, and that will mean very low compat.
Emulation is fine, as long as it's like the Virtual Console. I remember the PS3 using hardware emulation and then later models only used software emulation for PS1 and PS2 games.

They should've just stuck with the PowerPC processors, why go down a step backwards. That's not a good sign for things to come with the NS! If it turns out that NS can "only" play NS games and none of Nintendo's previous library of console/handheld games, then I hate to say it but the NS could become the Dreamcast 2.0! They don't need another failure, like they had with the Wii U. Nintendo always had a thing for BC since the GBA and Wii eras. The only consoles that didn't have BC were NES, SNES, N64, and GCN because the technology wasn't possible back in the 90s and early 2000s.

okok, btw, i heard from many source long ago that nintendo was highly considering gamecube emulation for nx
THEY MUST! I think the NS will play NES, SNES, N64, GCN, GB, GBC, GBA, and DS games. Just not sure about Wii, Wii U, and 3DS games. I assume Wii games will be BC since the Wii U has them on the eShop. Then there's 3DS and Wii U eShop games like the Shatane series, Shovel Knight and Axiem Verge.

Well the DS had BC with GBA games and they said it wouldn't replace the GBA and it did, around 2006-2007. I mean if they're not replacing them, at least make the 3DS and Wii U games digitally compatible. People don't like paying extra money again for them when they port them over.

that ds wouldnt replace gba
But it did, around 2006-2007. In fact GBA was almost dead, around this time, 10 years ago. The last GBA game was released, either in 2007 or 2008 IIRC. The GBA was still around by 2005 and a little bit of 2006. So the 3DS will probably be replaced in 2018 or 2019.

The DS replaced the Game Boy line with the DS, DSi, 3DS, and New 3DS, remember?

ofc it did, gba and ds arent from the same gen. switch and wii u/3ds arent either, but nintendo said it wont replace them
I don't remember exactly what Nintendo said in 2004, but I do remember seeing various concept art for the DS, in various magazines, similar to the NX/Switch.

The DS concept art showed up around 2003, just as the NX concept art showed up around 2015.

Remember watching G4, back when it was about video games and still a channel and they showed the DS at E3 '04 and I was blown away! The NS console is obviously a prototype, just like the DS and PSP, and a redesign will obviously happen.
