Can't we just use the homebrew launcher channel's icon.bin in all other homebrew? That doesn't break big N's rules as it was referring to the icon.bin for stock apps.
The logo claim is not on the icon (smdh) but on the banner ("Nintendo >>3<<DS"), which would be a possible complaint against the prebuilt cia but not the source code!

Oh look, I posted a Nintendo logo!
nintendo.png

Oh no! I'm a wanted criminal now!

Publish it in a distributed homebrew app, and then try that argument.

Legally their argument is invalid. Unless I'm mistaken, freeShop is using the inbuilt 3DS method to install files, like the Wii and Wii U installers do, so they can't come attack him.
Well let's see, it's built with copyrighted material (basically anything that uses makerom for a CIA), it uses a copyrighted Nintendo logo, it can be used to directly download illegal ticket files (updater built into app), it uses Nintendo's installation procedures, and above all else, its primary usage is piracy. Nintendo pretty much has full legal right to DMCA this.

(But hey, maybe I'm just dumb and don't know what I'm talking about.)

Edit- and before anyone tries to say, "then why don't they just DMCA every other homebrew then!?" They can, given the proper legal ground, but no other Homebrew is that much of a detriment to Nintendo's sales compared to freeshop, (excluding the other ticket related apps of course.)

Anyone who whines about this like the other DMCA takedowns is an idiot tbh
Nintendo is protecting their own copyright, you wouldn't like it if people stole games you made either

I'm cool with piracy, do what you want with your console and all, but don't fucking complain when the company starts trying to reclaim their copyright :rofl2:

Or as Nintendo themselves say:
the files located at the links below violate the GitHub Terms of Service by facilitating the theft of Nintendo's games from its eShop servers

Nintendo is angry, Nintendo is really getting serious with these things, even though they should be focusing on the Switch and firmware updates...

I mean is this really that shocking? I think any company would want to take down an app like this if they became aware of it. I'm sure Sony and Microsoft would shut this kind of thing down as well, regardless if something big about to be released is around the corner.

Well at least Nintendo is finally going to take a good long look in the mirror and fix their pathetic online infrastructure and account system which lead to the eShop being so easily exploited right guys?:P
who's idea was it to go by tickets instead of going by purchase history?

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
