Gloves and take your time while checking the firmware (you can also factory reset if you turned it on normally) and return it.... and ofc and make sure to remove all traces under light. Thats what im doing all the time...... but still no luck.Silly question but is there any way to check firmware version without taking the protective plastic off the switch? I bought a switch in the correct serial number range I think (XAW700067) but I'm paranoid based on some of the comments here. I can turn the switch on through the plastic but it immediately wants me to put the Joycons on in order to proceed.
I was hoping there might be some sort of recovery boot option where I can see the Firmware version on screen without going through the initial setup.
Yep, updated the OP.Very helpful. This needs to be in the initial first page post.

This is my thought, also. People don't understand that Nintendo is not their friend that they need to defend. The person who corrupted it was probably the same toolbag on here complaining about piracy.

Stop defacing the Switch Serial Sheet ... everything you do can be undone so stop doing it ! All cells are now protected meaning you can't sort so if you must sort the data ... load it into Excel ...
Carry on ...
It's not my concern, but what do you need so many Switches for?
