"Start".

Nintendo has been mitigating at every turn, often times very thoroughly. Notice how 4.x is already limited, 5.x is only going to get worse.

For the nth time: Nintendo's software has been rock solid almost at every turn, we've been exploiting nVidia's backdoors and memes... but Nintendo is fixing those too.

The Switch's code is regularly seeing internal audits and testing, they are on top of this and they're locking it down with increasing firmware.
On the upside? Nintendo has a finite number of e-fuses to burn. Find enough exploits, and any further FWs would have the same number burned.

Assuming you could get them to make enough new FW revisions, that is.

You have a long way to go, and the rate of exploits isn't going to remain as fast as current.

Never say never. After all, Nintendo wants the Switch to be more "stable" than the 3DS, which is probably going to take at least another dozen version numbers and some duct tape.

Side note: Could gou imagine the PR hit nintendo would take if they admitted the stability thing was a B.S. cover for fighting piracy?

When the news about TrustZone being hacked on 2.x hit, I wasn't surprised at all. But now that it's confirmed working on 3.x, it's making me start regretting updating to the latest firmware. I could have stayed on 3.0.1 and still been able to play Super Mario Odyssey, but I honestly didn't expect higher firmwares to be blown wide open so quickly, and I wanted to download something from the eShop.
Well, there's still no telling if/when any of this will be released, so I don't mind waiting a while longer.

What are you talking about? The Switch is already fully hacked from coldboot (TX, f0f) and Nintendo nor Nvidia can't do anything to mitigate it. There's no space in ipatches to fix this.
These toy exploits from the Reswitched team are fun and entertaining, but the TX big boys are going to own this Switch scene.

I almost made the same mistake today. Wanted to get a few digital games, but I am lucky to have consulted myself on gbatemp before doing so.

Interesting that you know that everyone, including me, will buy the HW mod from TX... Didn't know that I changed my mind. Thanks for pointing it out.

Stop this "TX is the only savior" bs please

Didn't say that. But you'll turn around once you notice that resistance is futile. Coldboot master race! :D

I'd love to see something from TX, but so far all they did was a tease.

Meanwhile, ReSwitched made a homebrew launcher and claim to have trustzone access up to 3.x

My trust is in team reswitched.

Understandable. But I have a good source that says it's real and working, and it is really coming.

These softmods from the ReSwitched team and hardmod from TX, both solutions can co-exist. Atleast initially. When the Switch firmware keeps getting updated though, the only working solution standing will be a hardmod and ultimately users will flock to that. I bet even ReSwitched might make a CFW for the TX hardmod.

TX is working to give us a hardware exploit that allegedly works on all current FW. Reswitched is using an exploit that's been publicly available for some time now and it's tied to 3.0.0 and below currently... Thus they've had more time to develop said homebrew launcher. Your logic is flawed.

Can you use your “source” to tell us more about what the solution entails?

That theory is only half right, if right at all. Those that are already on 3.x and under will have no need for a hardmod, regardless of updates.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
