I tried using paperclips, screwdriver, and wires. I've bought two jigs now. Nothing works.

You need some sort of conductive piece in the far left and far right of the end of where the right Joycon goes to short pin 10, right?

I put in the RCM jig/paperclip/screwdriver/wire, make sure the console is fully off, then hold power and volume +. I have *never* gotten it to boot into RCM.

I'd like to think I'm an intelligent individual, and the fact that everyone says it's so easy is kind of infuriating. I'm a dev so I'd like to start playing around with the system ASAP.

Help?

You should have posted this in a Fusee Gelee thread / noob help forum.

So let's look at the situation:

You have a jig that grounds pin 10 to either Pin 9, 7, 1?

You boot the console while holding volume +?

and when you do that, nothing happens or does it go into normal boot?

Are you doing the shorting on the right rail? Are you holding volume up, then pressing power? Is you Switch connected to the PC while doing these?
Hint: the correct answers are: yes, yes, no

Same here. I even bought a 3D-printed RCM jig. I haven't tried booting with the USB cable plugged, maybe that's the trick?

Nope, RCM does not require a USB cable, it should be plugged in after booting into RCM.

Sorry, I've never been outside this and the switch tutorial section. I didn't even know there was a noob help forum.

Yeah, I have two 3D printed jigs based on the design that was posted by fail (actually one by fail, and the "newer" version that was posted later).

I turn the console completely off (Hold power button while console is on -> Power Options -> Turn Off), put either jig in, then hold volume up and hold power while holding volume up. It just boots into the normal (Horizon?) OS.

Yes, yes, no.

EDIT: Here's pictures of the two RCM jigs:

Yes, yes, no.

Hmm sounds like u are doing it right.

Can you post a image of the jig(s) you are using? The issue must be that pin 10 is not properly grounded.

While jig inserted in right controller rail, and pressing volume +, dont hold power, just press it once.

What you are looking for is "nothing" in return. (No boot logo, nothing - just a black screen... (edit: to clarify not even a blaclk screen. Just a black screen that didnt even turn on.. ;) )) then you've successfully entered RCM.

If your next question is "now what do I do then?" I'm out on that one.. :)

edit: Ah - a "nevermind" user. Following steps that say hold one button, then press another button is hard. I mean, there are two buttons. How would you know not to press three? *snark*

Isn't the way you need to turn off the switch is holding the power button until it turn off by itself? IDK exactly but that was the way I did it when I boot mine in RCM

When trying the paperclip, did you short pin 10 and the rail metal/fan metal?

No, I connected Pin 1 to Pin 10 using the paperclip.

Still not working =/ Curious though, should I still see the Nintendo logo and just not the switch logo? Or literally nothing?

Yep, that's the only way in RCM if the payload does t handle the power button. However, I prefer the official method in HOS.

You shouldn't see nothing... the screen shouldn't even turn on

What they said.

Formerly:

Nothing at all. You press the power button, and there is no reaction.

If something happens (Nintendo logo, boot logo) you are doing it wrong.. ;)

;)
