Im banned and I don't care, didn't want to pay 20$ to play online. There isn't a game out right now that make me say "I need to play online" and I don't care about smash. Im having a blast playing with my friends (couch co-op). Would recommend 10/10

There is no "SAFE" CFW...if you're using homebrew/CFW/unofficial apps on your device (doesn't matter if it's Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo hardware) you are risk of a ban...this is something you have to be willing to accept before using any of these things....weigh out the pros and cons of both and decide if you are willing to take a ban risk or not...

Waiting for a CFW with Emunand. Switch is still in it´s unopened package.
definitely for that, altough i'm maybe out with my 2.1 switch :-(

but leaving the original-system firmware be clean as possible is like having a boot0 patch from wii times - it will be my system recovery version as long as i can restore an emunand backup. i even have a 200gb sd slot just for the whole nand which just waits to be used :P

thats why i also hazzle with the unofficial update to 5.0.x i don't wanna meddle with the original nand as much as possible. Dumping the NAND is currently a real piece of the cake which is lucky for us!

I haven't been into online multiplayer since Halo 3/COD4 so I don't care about getting banned and SXOS is incredibly simple to launch games and homebrew so..

Using offline, but only because I never bothered to set up internet on my switch as I haven't used the eshop and don't play online.

never understood the "muh ban" mentality for people who hack their console or use CFW, like, what do you expect

i'll use my switch to its fullest with CFW, and when i get banned from online i wont complain because i saw it coming

I'm on 4.0, and just started using SX pro. I've been offline for a good 2 months now and was holding off updating, just in case a cold boot method shows up. But idk how that is progressing.

I made a nand backup when I first got the SX, but didn't understand how to get hekate loaded and thought SX had to be run first, so I guess my nand backup isn't pristine. (Don't have auto rcm, devmenu or anything else installed)
I guess maybe it doesn't matter because I don't play online or care about banning, as long as I can still get game updates without an issue. I just really want a cold boot option before going all in with cfw. Was so nice to have that available on 3ds and Vita.

Hey @chocoboss, when you say "Remove Internet connection from parameters", are you just deleting your wifi info from the settings? With that said, is it possible yet via SX Pro/CFW/Homebrew to disable the wifi from being used at all on your switch? I ask because I do not want my nephews to have the ability to connect with a hacked switch and get themselves banned (expecting them to listen to my warnings of not connecting to the internet while I am not there will not be the smartest thing for me to do). I do not trust just removing the network from the settings as there are so many hotspots and friends houses that they can and probably would try to connect to at their young age lol..

@Tasemu & @elboo To clarify, booting into SX OS Bootloader cannot be detected by Nintendo? In essence, is one free to load up SX OS in order to take a NAND backup and that won't flag your console? Is it only once you load up CFW and any homebrew that you are potentially flagged? Just wanted clarification if possible.

make your nand backup on a clean switch. then go into airplane mode and don't turn airplane mode off till you eventually restore the nand backup

Looking for a CFW that painlessly exposes the filesystem to arbitrary modification. LayeredFS is a step in that direction, but is not there yet. Because I want to do crazy and wild things, I want EmuNAND so I can easily revert a botched modification.

Re safe method and the supposed impossibility of it according to some here.

I would observe a distinction between current methods which make little to no attempt to understand and negate countermeasures and future methods where people have gone through the binaries to figure out what each thing does, where hidden code might be and how to fake responses, and much of that is fairly able to be automated these days (between decompilers, optimisation methods and some heuristics, basically see those things people do to counter viruses and other malware, it is not as tedious as a traditional full disassembly and documentation).

The security sides are reversed and "we have to be right every time, they just have to be right once" is in play for the hackers but such things can be made relatively safe -- the Switch still has to play games when all is said and done and that limits the amount of fiddling that can be done. I could then see it getting to the point where it is more of a "if you got banned then you did not follow the guide, also you might have to wait a couple of weeks when firmware updates come out so we can analyse them".

Similarly "play offline until I can restore a pre hacked version or remove the relevant sections from logs" is also an option.

I should also note that it should be possible to take your emunand image and dirty up the serials and whatever else might ID you. That way you should not get pinged should something from the emunand leak out. Granted that has not been done yet so better hope your emunand is scrubbed for relevant online stuff or you can otherwise negate it.

I was tempted to say that I wasn't going to install cfw, but I don't want to completely discount the possibility. being banned on the ps3 (both system and account) really stressed me out. the system banning was one thing, but I was using the same account on four systems. the vita/pstv was the most stressful system to get rid of a banned account since you essentially have to do a system restore and remove everything. I was naive to think that it would never happen to me, but that's generally when you get careless. I still have no idea how I got banned on the ps3 though. I just don't want to be banned again.

We were going through this same topic in another thread. A "clean" NAND may not necessary be clean since you have to load SX OS Bootloader (for those with SX OS) to even get the option to dump.

To my knowledge, it is not known currently whether or not opening SX OS Bootloader or any other homebrew (for those without SX OS) will flag the system. So although it is the "cleanest" NAND backup you can have, its still in the air whether or not restoring to with the potential flag already on it will prevent bans.
