So I have a 5.10 switch I think. Havent played it since BOTW.

I think I'll play a bit of smash casually online. Is it worth sticking around to find an online solution pop up where I won't get banned or do you think I can upgrade to 6.20, play online and wait it out for a solution in regards to playing backups later?

You are going to burn fuses if you update your Switch the official way. You can no longer downgrade afterwards.

How else is there to upgrade?

Will the other upgrade option get me banned?

ALso I have already upgraded my Switch twice.. so I'm going to assume I've already burnt them then?

Why link him something so outdated? Even in the thread, it says its been replaced with ChoiDujourNX.

Thanks man. Does this still involve CFW and a risk to getting banned?

My main aim is to play Smash Bros online so if I go through all of that and then still can't play it online its going to be a bit annoying.

If you want to minimize your risk of being banned, you should just update officially and burn fuses. Just be aware that by doing so you will never be able to downgrade to any firmware below 6.2 without RCM meaning you will be stuck with the RCM exploit possibly for life and that only one CFW supports 6.2 which is Atmosphere.

Thank you boss.

Can Atmosphere still load backups?

I'm waiting for the Switch refresh, then I'll buy that and use this Switch as a backup Switch to play whatever games I'm not too fond of investing in.

All CFW support "backups"

Thanks. I'm just trying to get my head around this new scene.

So as far as I know, we have 2 types of Switch. The old revision and the new revision. The new revision can't run CFW or be hacked right?
Whilst the older one [the one I have] can be?

My main concern is I'll likely eventually buy the newer revision and THAT will become my online play switch so I don't want to completely ruin this one.

So, if I update to 6.20 officially, I can still switch CFW to atmosphere in 2-3 months time and play backups?

Only iff he has a clean backup Nand and restore it.

How come I'd need a clean backup nand?

Have you used CFW before? If you have used CFW before, don't restore a clean Nand, update, and use it online, you risk ban. It isn't guaranteed, but it happens.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

If you want to use CFW.. It will save your neck and money. It is to restore if you got the brick, banned, and something like that.

Backups don't help at all after banning. As far as bricking goes, any nand backup protects from bricks, doesn't need to be a clean nand. Clean nands protect from being banned in the future.

Thanks.

So I've never used CFW before so I'm guessing I'm okay to just update and when the time comes, possibly get a clean NAND before I do ever use CFW? [I'm not planning to for a while as I want to play Smash lol].

Right yes. You are clean, and no need to create a clean nand backup until right before you install CFW. You could theoretically miss out on a warm boot exploit in the future, but no big deal, as the cold boot one is permanent.

Is it piracy if it was released for free? Not in my opinion, but I also think it's not piracy if buying it isn't owning it, and it's not piracy if you can't buy it from the original creators anymore.
