To replace the 3ds, that switch would have to have two screens and need to be a separate system in my opinion or it’s not really replacing the 3ds, even if they decide to discontinue the 3ds.

Screen may not be big enough to do that, with two screens maybe but if they were to do a split screen thing, might be too small. I don’t think playing 3ds with the screen being side by side instead of top and bottom will work out that well. I know there is a work in progress ds emulator for the switch but I never tried it out to see what split screen options are available, I recall there being a emulator but I could be wrong.

No, I don't think so. I think they are done with DS and 3DS for 2 screens. They are going to make a new one and a brand creative technology. I think they wants to do something different. Big different. No more 2 screens, I believe.

I heard from reliable sources (my imagination) that they're jumping on the bendable screen wagon. JoyCons will be attachable on the side aswell as on the right half top and bottom of the Switch. The Switch can then fold into "3DS Mode".
Fully backwards compatible with 3DS games and 1st Gen Switches.

100% confirmed and real and obviously no joke :)

If they continue with the stereoscopic 3D, they have my money.
Highly unlikely.

The 3DS proved that the 3D feature was underwhelming to the majority of the public. Adding confusion with the 2DS was proof of that, and so was dropping the 3D feature with the Switch.

3DS game boxes carried warnings about the 3D feature and young eyes. Bad PR. Many just use the 3D feature occasionally, despite Nintendo improving it with so-called Super Stable 3D (which was far from Super Stable). But every Nintendo console needs its own gimmick (or distinguishing feature, if you prefer), and the Switch has its own. So again no need for 3D.

If Nintendo ever tried to compete with Sony or Microsoft directly for a home console, they would fail. So they don't. They need their distinguishing 'think different' gimmick. They have it with the Switch. Especially now with Sony not making portables, they are raking in the money and can continue with their policy of being technical laggards, at least as far as home consoles are concerned.
