What exactly is Cobra and can CFW/HAN/HFW/HEN install PKG and plugins, run PS1/PS2/PS3 ISOs, etc., without it?

Can anyone tell me what exactly is Cobra and can CFW/HAN/HFW/PS3HEN install PKG and plugins, run PS1/PS2/PS3 ISOs, etc., without it or is Cobra needed for it? If the latter, how can non-Cobra CFW/HAN/HFW/PS3HEN do these things (and others)?

Also, what's the difference between Cobra and Mamba?

It's quite complicated...
There are several ways to make 'things' and it's depended to what you want to do.

PS3 have by default many restrictions in a 'closed' code environment. So, many users trying to get needed functions like (ex.) disc backup or save/load/play from external disk, usb etc. but soni PS did not like those.

Know what you need and search for what is possibly supported for your (PS3?) device model (depended to s/n).

CFW I think it's the most supporting 'things' but mind that when you done it, you must forget PSN, PSstore, (etc) from this console. But, you can anytime revert CFW to OFW if you first has kepd OFW backup. (Note! if you try to login from CFW your PSN account will be blocked forever.)

In short: lets say a CFW is the base to use functions as install apps (pkg) and do the work like: video/picture/file - player/manager or cheat management or run games from usb external HD (ext/fat or ntfs), pc-ps3 FTP, and many more.

Conclusion: Don't be afraid and make 'experiments' if :
You study step by step and always keep backup!

OK, but what about Cobra?

Oh man....you really ask far too many questions:wtf:....a simple google search would have given you your answers in no time:

https://atunnic.gitbook.io/tnpsh-wiki/cfw-hfw-mfw/cobra

I already read that and like I said, it seems CFW by itself doesn't have some features that arr added by CFW. Do you know if there's any HAN, HFW or PS3HEN that doesn't come with Cobra? It seems Cobra and Mamba have the same features so what's the difference between them?

I already read that and it looks like CFW by itself doesn't offer the features Cobra does. Do you if there's any HAN, HFW or HEN that doesn't come with Cobra? It looks like Cobra and Mamba have the same features. What's the difference between using Cobra and running Mamba on coldboot?
As already described in the wiki, Mamba is an outdated alternative to Cobra.
Cobra itself is simply a payload that adds some features to the ps3....and most of these features are built into HEN as far as I know (except PS2 ISO support).

HAN, Hen, and HFW are more or less the same thing:

first was HAN, it allowed us to tinker a bit with the console. At some point HAN went HEN, with increasing capabilities. Sony patched the browser exploit which was used to apply HEN, but then Habib (4.84.1) and Joonie (4.85.1) created their own firmwares with the exploits available as HEN entry points, named them HybridFirmWare, or HFW for short.

if you don't have the possibility to use a permanent cfw, the choice will fall on hen anyway ....which, as already mentioned, has the most common features that a standard user needs

I have CFW. So, it seems the latest CFW comes with some features but others are only added by Mamba/Cobra and the latest CFW comes with Cobra. That's what I wanted to know.

@xoINARIox, and what's the xai_plugin which comes with Evilnat CFW and what's the difference between it and Cobra? What can pre-Mamba/Cobra CFW and pre-xai_plugin CFW do?

honestly op, you make this way more complicated than it needs to be, for any system. most systems are so easy to hack or exploit that they almost hack themselves.

Who makes this way more complicated than it needs to be are the developers with all this terminology and what does supposedly being easy to hack or exploit most systems have to do with my questions, anyway?
