Gaming Hacking How can I edit a savegame?

I just wanted to play Resident Evil 4 again, but unfortunately the game does not find my savegame. After a little searching I found out that there are two different Resident Evil 4 in German: RB4P (uncut) and RB4X (cut).

I probably had the uncut (RB4P) game back then, but unfortunately it got lost at some point. Now I bought the game 2nd hand and it is the cut (RB4X) version.

Can I somehow edit my RB4P savegame and use it with RB4X?
If so, how?

You want to convert the savefile from the "uncut" ver to the "normal" Ger version?
It's not guaranteed to work. Read up on this thread, there's instructions by @godreborn on how to do it.. Though you need to extract the save with SaveGame manager GX first if you haven't already.

Ok, I extracted both saves (RB4P+RB4X) to a SD, now I have two folders and six files:

savegames

│           bh4_data00
│           bh4_system

       └─── banner.bin
            bh4_data00
            bh4_system

Now which of these is which?
Once I figure that out I just need to swap/replace the bh4_data00 and the bh4_system files?

I have no idea. Just follow reading the thread.
The game id could be visible for each when the file is opened in a hex editor.

It worked!

I just extracted both saves to different folders so I could tell them apart, then moved the bh4_data00 and bh4_system files from the old save to the new one.

This might be the first time I have seen an intra country save conversion on the same system*, though not the first time Germany and censorship has caused grief.

*I don't count the two-three slightly different versions of the same game pokemon and its ilk do.

That said I expect the games to be similar enough that yeah some kind of container swap should do for this and if said container provides the hashing (or things otherwise unchanged) then yeah.

Regardless of that then I would not most would probably have just downloaded the relevant version for their save, especially on something as readily hacked as the Wii.

There have been a few websites over the years, they were never as populated as the DS side of things where flash carts, emulators and save dumping tools made it trivial. Not sure where people are looking today though as some of the efforts during the wii lifetime have since gone pop and I doubt such things were captured on wayback machine (direct linking having vanished about 3 years before the wii took off).
