GoldenEye 007 official remaster announced by Rare, for Xbox and Switch

GoldenEye 007 was confirmed to be part of the Nintendo Switch Online offerings of N64 titles during the Nintendo Direct today, but that wasn't all--the game will be getting a full remaster treatment, courtesy of Rare. A number of improvements will be made to the classic, including 4K resolution, smoother framerate, achievements, 16:9 widescreen, and online play. Dual analog stick support has also been added, to modernize the control scheme. If you own Rare Replay, you'll get the game for free, or if you have Xbox Game Pass, GoldenEye 007 will also be a part of that library.

The "online" in the Nintendo online emulated roms is literally just local multiplayer with some hackey adhoc networking.

It's not dedicated online. This is why it's so abysmal. Literally nobody has a good experience with the online in Nintendo's emulators. It's laggy and terrible.

It's just the normal local mp but with adhoc and Xbox has local mp.
speak for yourself, worked great for me with friends

well if system link IS supported, then that would just further confirm that its likely going to be the 360 remaster; because maybe they stripped the xbox live component out of it but left the system-link capability (or maybe Xbox Live support was never finished on the remaster)
split screen only, its not the xbla version

well, my previous post was saying i hope ad-hoc multiplayer was coming, someone said local was confirmed, so I assumed they were saying ad-hoc was supported. which in the event that nobody knew that I was referring to system-link then I was.

Wasn't there already a remake a decade ago, which replaced Pierce Brosnan with Daniel Craig?
Or I am having a fever dream right now?
You're right mate.
There was one GoldenEye for Wii actually, it had online play and all, but it was more of a reimagining rather than a remake.
Something like Silent Hill: Shattered Memories.

Yes, I only own it because it was discounted with a Wii classic controller Pro.

IIRC, this was because EON disliked having any Bond other than the current Bond in any games. That might be why we’re now getting this, because there isn’t a Bond at the moment.

And are every one of those 32 million paying NSO members? I bet that includes people who have Nintendo accounts who use the shop etc. There's no way they have that many paying for their Emulators/Online play bundle!

If that's not the case then stand corrected and will hope that online play will come to Xbox in the end via a patch. It will be the superior version overall anyway I expect.
32 million is the total number of paying NSO members on September 2021 (on year ago), so if this number did not declined a lot on the past year, than Nintendo has like 8 million players more than the Xbox environment.

Xbox has by far the best online infrastructure, best cloud implementation, again, by far, has that dumb gaming gamification that is the achievements (dumb in my lonely opinion, but hugely popular) and have the best graphics and framerate. On other hand Nintendo has games, that's why is so popular with a service that bad.

Lol that goldeneye "remake" or "reimagining" was garbage, the very first few seconds was basically the start of Dam but that was a massive tease and it was completely different from there. Cash grab.

I looked at gameplay videos after my post last night and yep, the game is awfully generic Call of Duty engine FPS, with only just coincidental resemblances to the original.

Honestly you could literally strip away all the 007 Goldeneye elements from it, replace Bond with Generic COD Protagonist #7, change the game name to Call of Duty: Cold War Spies, and it would have worked just as good (or bad depending on the point of view in this case) as a yearly FPS game release lol

Now I remember why it was so barely memorable to me, it really sucked, lol
Okay to be fair it may have been fun... For a few hours, and only then for never touching it again from getting bored, I guess.

The planets really aligned if Eon, Microsoft and Nintendo came to an agreement to have this released. Just like Banjo Kazooie, it seems like Switch version is basic but Xbox version is the enhanced version so here's hoping we'll get more Rareware N64 games.
Or Eon just don't have a movie greenlit to feature the new Bond.

The only reason EA was able to release From Russia with Love at all was because there wasn't a movie being worked on. For whatever dumb reason, eon is really fussy and demand that any James Bond media released within the time frame of a given movie feature the "current" Bond, only. It's probably why Goldeneye Reloaded featured Daniel Craig rather than Pierce Brosnan.

Local almost always refers to split-screen. "Ad-hoc" is really only used to refer to PSP local multiplayer. While not incorrect, try LAN or System Link next time ;)

if we wanna get super technical, "ad-hoc" is the term used in networking (at least in wireless) to connect two devices without an access point device between them. but then we're splitting hairs lol. I believe the term is only true when specifically talking about two wireless devices talking without an AP involved.

Sony was the only one to call it what it really is. So me calling it ad-hoc is technically wrong but I figured most people would understand what I'm saying. I'll make sure to call it by it's proper name next time to avoid confusion :D

Nonetheless, my main point is that I really hope that system link would be supported, but I seriously doubt it. While I don't mind split-screen multiplayer, I feel like Rare and Xbox are really missing a mark.
