    Guys can I make DS homebrew using Scratch?

    For example: A bitmap(.bmp) file has a BMP header and a structure holding how the overall image is constructed, including the actual image in pixel colors (1,4,8,16 or 24 bits) added right after the BMP header. If you were to feed that raw file into a processor, it would crash, as it only understands CPU opcodes it was programmed for.

    When you think of rom hacking, you're an extra layer above the raw file and the CPU instructions, because the game was made around an engine, and that engine works as a whole. You can't modify a few bits and expect it to work. You need to get the whole engine decompiled first, rebuild it, and once it behaves exactly as expected, you can add features or change sprites, etc.

    If you're lucky, you may get around replacing an asset held within the binary. But that isn't recommended, because you may as well break the whole CPU program, if other parts (like replacing a char string) rely on different segments of the program and/or statically referenced properties of it, like its hardcoded size may be scattered around the binary due to compiler optimization.

    Thanks alot! I've got plans on how the game will be. Replacing the pistol with The Super-Slingshot, the shotgun with the Spudgun, removing blood to make them look a little more KO-ed and I won't be able to add free-roaming in the school main building or classes.

    Sorry to get your hopes up.
    I learned almost everything just to realize I'm using a 32bit 2GB/ram Windows 7 laptop that has a blown off battery since 2017.
    I need a upgrade. But I can never afford it in my country...
