How in the world did you get your hands on that? What a fantastic find! I echo the sentiment of not modding it. It's a piece of history!
Yeah - for the price you could get for that, in "stock" condition, you could buy several regular n3ds XL's.
There are none on ebay as far as I can see, but considering the price of just the Louvré 3ds carts on ebay, I'd guess that the system is worth at least a couple of orders of magnitude more...

Honestly, this could be worth more kept in original state. 3DSes capable of playing games are not hard to come by after all, but these are.
At the very least, dump the NAND before you do anything else. I don't know what you paid for this but it could be worth a lot to the right collector.

I'm sure it's possible, really doubt Nintendo would have made significant modifications to the hardware. The solder points for the speakers are probably still there, even. So the changes are probably mostly in software, which we have the means to do whatever we want to.
I don't really know if it's a market or not where should I advertise this if I'm willing to sell it?
I don't have a proper screwdriver for it, I think I must order PH 000, I have PH 00 and it doesn't work.
So if It doesn't have a flash card slot inside it's still possible to do something? What are the steps on making this New Nintendo 3DS XL Louvre edition running games.

having cash money on you and being in the right time at the right spot. I can sell it if someone is interested, but this is not the subject of this post.

It would be very cool for the community to get a firmware dump of that very rare piece of kit. Also it looks very nice, so gratz on your purchase
haha I will try to open it first because I don't have any screw driver proper to open this, if someone can suggest me on Temu (they deliver faster.) some proper jis 000 or ph 000 screwdrivers, It will be much appreciated.

Haha I will think about whether I will resell it or not. And if someone could suggest me a market for this, I don't think eBay allow those kind of things because It's not suppose to be sold. If there is a Forum or a community for this kind of consoles I will be glad to find out. For my knowledge and for this dedicated people I will try to modify it and make it function as a regular New Nintendo 3DS XL. When I get bored I probably put it on my closet or I will sell it.

Hello everyone, I bought this and I want to play some games on it. If I remove the microSD card which contains the audio guide the console gives this message:

microSD card is not inserted.

Can we make it run games and use it as a console?
I wouldn't modify a console that rare. These look to be modified dev kits, I imagine.

I'm curious how it will be and It's giving me excitement on thinking about mode it. After I will do it, I will turn it back to it's original state probably. It will be also the first kind of console that runs games. And It's good for people who loves consoles and are dedicated to know it's possible or not, to share information with people. That's all about.

Unlike some people here, I mostly don't care what you do with your own stuff. If you want to convert it into a normal devkit, be my guest. It's up to you. I do support the "dump the SD Card and NAND and preserve that shiz" crowd though. The SD Card can be preserved now. It's removable, so you can make a disk image dump. The Nintendo 3DS folder'll be encrypted, sure - but if the NAND is dumped it will be decryptable. As for dumping the NAND itself? If there is in fact no Game Card slot, that makes the prospect a little harder. From what I can gather, the Louvre promotional 3DSes are developer systems, but stripped way down, with no speakers. Wi-Fi card, or Game Card slot. If this is true, the only way to get an entrypoint would either be to somehow find an exploit in the Louvre app itself (unlikely) or to install a Game Card slot with which to run NTRBoot. (If you do want to retrofit your Louvre 3DS into a normal developer 3DS, you'll need to do this as one of the steps anyway!)

Collectors can be the enemy of digital preservation when they only care about value go up, much like how the Benin Bronzes were only valued for the bronze except by the British who saw their inate value as artifacts, which is why they were rescued in the first place. This is also why known iconoclasts - socialists and Muslims chief among them, but others are also guilty - want them returned to their places of origin along with many other artifacts they know will be destroyed for money or cult faith in such cases. Not to dump on all collectors though: private collectors have been historically less vulnerable to such politically correct predations than museums, and the digital sphere is no exception. Museums rarely have copies of stuff that enthusiasts haven't preserved first, if at all. I want to help this any way I can.

TL;DR: - you need an entrypoint. Considering how stripped-down these units are, you will probably need to solder a Game Card slot onto the motherboard, get a flashcard that can run NTRboot (either natively or via patching - I assume this isn't your only DS) and then remember that this is a development unit. Don't follow the retail hacking guide. I tried finding the development one for you, but I don't really have time to go super deep in the weeds. I don't even know if the dev unit guide is still up to be honest. Once you have your entrypoint, dumping the NAND is no problem using Godmode9. Dumping the SD Card is even easier. Plug it into a PC and dump the disk the same way you would any other FAT32 device.

Boo-hoo, rare piece of history. Don't get me wrong, I would also love to have it, but we just simply can't have all the nice things.

I think we should be grateful to even have images of this thing, let alone a NAND dump + essentials.exefs.

Just let him hack it and play his games.

I wonder if SoundHax works on dev systems? Or if the OS version is even old enough to have SoundHax. Is it even installed and/or accessible? Could be a fun entrypoint chain :P

Do you know the installed system version? Or access it in any way? Reading back the posts, I don't see it mentioned anywhere.

Personally I'd suggest getting into touch with the fine folks over at https://gamehistory.org/ and see if they'd be willing to dump the console for you first, then you could more easily do whatever you want with it. Those people have a lot of knowledge when it comes to preservation of hardware and software, and might be highly interested in getting their hands one of those to make scans, dumps, and some other documentation before giving it back to you.
What they find might also then be useful for you to hack it so you can actually install and play games on it.

Or failing that they might be interested in either buying it, or can get you in touch with someone that is, and then you can get a regular one that is actually able to be hacked without some very fine soldering required.

No, no, no, no, no. They've got knowledge, but they have tons of shit that they just hold onto. It's the attitude of "it's preserved if it's on my hard drive" with a reluctance to share it elsewhere. They'd spit up some garbage like "let's ask the louvre if we can upload the dump" and none of us would see the dump for ages. That is the worst way to go. I have one sided beef I won't get into but basically fuck no.

Anyways, I've been talking with the owner and we are going to get it dumped.

Yeah. The only thing that makes it special beyond being a dev unit is the NAND. But dump that and then who cares what you install to it.

Also it auto boots into the louvre guide (home button disabled) so there's no way to check what version or access any other apps.

Aren't they the group that regularly release new prototypes and other dev units they find? Or was that a different group?

We have one dump of a louvre 3DS, but we don't know what differences might be in another. Might be cool leftovers we wouldn't have seen otherwise.

It will throw up an error without the louvre stuff.

The Louvre guide on this console is probably more recent than the one on the cartridge! (I don't know how old is the latest eShop update, it's the 1.3 but the Nintendo website has only documented the 1.1 from 2014, and this console is copyrighted from 2019, according to the official Louvre and 3DS Facebook pages.)
I agree it's very important to preserve its NAND and its SD card.
