I am using 3D Movie Viewer in order to watch 3D movies on my 3DS. I have a sizeable collection of 3D movies and I would like to sort them alphabetically.

It seems that the order is based on the last added file. However, I have tried programmatically changing the "Date modified", "Date created", "Date", "Date accessed", and "Date last saved" attributes. It seems like doing this has no effect on the order. The only thing that seems to work is manually deleting and re-adding the file in the order that I would like.

Does anyone know anything about this? Is there some kind of missing attribute? Does 3D Movie Viewer periodically check for new movies and keep an order in a separate metadata file? Or is it something entirely different?

I don't know about the program the 3ds uses but what you likely have is file system order, something we see often enough in homebrew and low powered devices that struggle to allocate resources to parse a file system. You want a program called fat sorter (there are several to choose from, I don't know what we are suggesting these days https://fatsort.sourceforge.io/ looks like a reasonable start).

Yeah, this is what I've found with the program as well, no matter what, the titles just seem to stay in the order that they were moved to the Micro SD card on the 3DS. I just went and moved them to my SD card in the order that I preferred, was a little annoying to remove what I had added to only add them again later in a specific order, but ultimately not that big of a deal.

Thank you! I am going to look into this! Will report back when I do.

Glad to hear I am not the only one to encounter this issue! Yeah, that is possible. Worst case scenario, I will do that. I am curious to know what the original issue is though.

I know this post is over 2 years ago but I just wanted to give an update for anyone who might have the same question.

@FAST6191 Thank you for your suggestion. It does seem to be related to FAT32 storage. I couldn't get FATSort to work even though it looked promising; I think the issue stems from my set up. I found another software called DriveSort (Anerty's Lair) that does something similar with a UI. After sorting AND saving the directory (did not realize this was a separate step the first time I tried it), now all my movies appears in alphabetical order in 3D Movie Viewer.
