I have taken several classes but I always find there is a new interesting topic or that my knowledge is not as deep as I'd like it to be.

    Hi Avalynn,
Sorry about the comment, I joined the forum to talk to you and some other Modders, and can't PM people yet :(
I am planning to hardmod a n3DS XL using the plethora of guides available, but really wanted to try your awesome solution of allowing charging and NAND access, toggled by a switch, and using all 5 pins of a micro-usb port.

I couldn't quite figure out how you wired the switch and what type of switch you used (SPDT or DPDT, etc) - would you be willing to clarify?

You explained about shorting out data pins - if you'd be willing to provide a wiring diagram or similar, that would be amazing! I'm really excited for this - I've been playing around with electronics for years, but this will be my first time modding a handheld console! :)
Hi, Do you fix hard bricked 3ds? Thanks

Sorry I haven't touched the 3DS since almost a year now :( . All I can offer is a advice. If you have a backup of your NAND you can restore that via a hardmod or I think there was a way via raspberry pi.
Life has been crazy recently and I'm moving around. So sorry to everyone that has asked for eMMC mods. I'll start again once I settle :)

Thank you to everyone that has supported me and made me feel welcome here. In a short time I've learned a lot about the 3DS and have come to GBATemp as a place of learning and fun. I'll do my best to still chime in once in a while once I get my life sorted out.

I looked at your work and I gotta say, it's really good! Everything is neat! Still wish I was American....

Oooh. I don't normally check profiles, so I didn't know you were away, sorry for mentioning you.. and getting worried that I scared you off or something when you didn't reply (to my PM).
    This explains a lot.
Hi Avalynn, I was wondering if you could help me with a NAND hardmod on a original 3DS. Please shoot me a message, and let me know what you need, and how this will work. I have a NAND backup for firmware 4.5.

Just curious, how much would an O3DS NAND mod cost for me if I'm located in Ontario, Canada?

Right now I am doing a flat rate of $15 for any of systems 2DS, 3DS, N3DS etc. and we can figure out postage and the like. If postage is a lot I am flexible on pricing.
Do you have any photos of the N3DS nand mods you do? I'm curious where you put the ports and what it looks like all finished.

Perfect! I'm in Florida. How much would it cost for a NAND mod + restore? I have a NES 3DS XL with 3 different NAND backups (4.2, 7.2, 9.2)

I've sent you a PM with all the details, should you have any questions please ask!
So it's $10 for the Nand mod? Or are there other payments or such? I need mine hardmodded, considering I updated and have a nand copy of 9.2. If you can, thanks! Also PM if you'd like if we can talk about it.

It's $10 + you pay shipping and if you are in the US, USPS does flat rate for like 5.95 to anywhere in the US. so total is like 22 unless you ship using a massive box or something.

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

  • Jayro @ Jayro:
The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

    but that's a long shot

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
