Comment by 'urherenow' in 'I suck at Metroid Prime'

heh. I finally feel defeated enough to post that, and I get past it with nearly 2 minutes to spare on the very next try. The control scheme between having 2 different buttons that cause you to jump, switching to the visor and scanning stuff... is all rather confusing in this game... to a newcomer

    I suck at Metroid Prime

I've played through nearly all Metroid games. Even sort of did speed runs in Dread, getting down to 2h7min before the world record wasn't much less than 1.5 hours (before the latest methods of sink and skew...)... but I have never played the Gamecube. So I have never played Metroid Prime, even...

    Any Whiskey drinkers here?

Japan is weird about things that are deemed "popular". Seemingly mundane things disappear off of shelves if it is featured in a TV program. One particular bottle of Suntory Whiskey (there are many) called "The Yamazaki", recently won a Best single malt whiskey (in the WORLD) award...

    Back from deployment

Looks like a lot has happened with Provenance Emu for iOS the past few weeks. Nothing much seems to have changed in Switch land since I was in Manila a while back. Only thing really catching my eye is the Bayonetta 3 release. Although... I've yet to play through the first two to this day... Had...

    Gonna setup a NAS

Walking through Akihabara today and thought about the Yen rate right now… best (for US$) that it’s been since late 1998. Synology 4 bay (420+) NAS 4 Toshiba 10TB 7200rpm NAS drives. ¥166,724. Charge in USD? $1,192.06. Just a few years ago, the rate hit 100 and even lower. I just saved better...

Got a new OLED Switch today

Out in town this time. At the current exchange rate, I’ll end up paying less than $321 for it, and it’s the one with a white dock and white joycons. Wonder when I’ll find the time for my second attempt at an install.

Comment by 'urherenow' in 'Killed my OLED'

Game saves aren't stored on the card, and if you installed games on the card you still need your console's keys to decrypt it. Seeing as how I bricked it before being able to get CFW on it, everything is useless as far as data. No biggie (other than the waste of $$ and the use of a pretty...

Comment by 'urherenow' in 'Killed my OLED'

Nah. Per-console keys means any save data and such I've transferred onto that device is lost. Any boards that would be for sale are not new; just removed from a Switch. And the prices... best to just get a new one and have the old one for parts.

    Killed my OLED

Slowly but surely getting my micro-soldering skills... acceptable. Unfortunately, I suck at using solder wick. After messing up my first job, and replacing my dat0 connection, I popped off the clk and cmd connections. Silly me, trying to clean up the board first, and solder got on that huge...

Comment by 'urherenow' in 'Got my second OLED Switch chip in the mail'

I had to leave almost as soon as I got home from work today, because my wife planned a weekend of Disney land/ Disney Sea, back in January. I’m crawling out of my skin because I’m ready to reassemble my OLED after a week of procrastinating/dreading fixing my clk wire. Exposed the ground plane by...

Got my second OLED Switch chip in the mail

Ruined the first out of sheer stupidity. Never even attempted to install it. Now... I'm trying to fight the urge to attempt an install without having all of my tools yet. Still waiting for a decent PCB holder. Sure I have ways to handle it, but ordered one of these things as suggested by one of...

Comment by 'urherenow' in 'The importance of QA'

The design is severely flawed. Something like this is meant to be a teaching tool for toddlers (or younger), but it should be designed in a way that it is impossible to fit the wrong shape in the wrong hole. The QA guy was demonstrating to the engineer, how she failed at this. The importance is...

    The importance of QA

    I can't over-emphasize the importance of this video. And I can't stop laughing :rofl2:

Comment by 'urherenow' in 'I broke Metroid Dread'

I'm almost back to where I was. And the ONLY thing I skipped with that accidental water bomb jump, was the spin boost (double-jump). I have a backup of the save as well, and downloaded a game update, which didn't fix that save. The power beam door will still not open. At least I've cut about 5...

    I broke Metroid Dread

Damn it. 8 hours in. No watching videos or spoilers. I got stuck in the area where the crossbombs are, to I did a thing with a flash spark, or whatever it's called, and ended up getting the radar pulse and crossbombs... and now I'm stuck. The only possible path (I don't have the spin attack yet...

Comment by 'urherenow' in 'I have been exposed to covid 19'

Most people (Better than 99%) are just fine, but I know 1 person who had it, who's lungs are swiss cheese now (like... he's seriously messed up, probably for life), and a few who have died from it. If you're one of the people that stays asymptomatic, you should still feel blessed. Either way...

Had a chance to try Provenance on the 4k atv

Experience wasn't that exciting. Not tweaking any settings and using a Nimbus controller, there was way too much lag for my liking. It seems N64 is *nearly* full speed most of the time, but controller lag even in NES games is a total deal breaker. Plays flawlessly on my iPAD pro, which I can...

Finally got my aTV 4K connected to xcode!

Never could get it working in a VM. The pairing process, although mostly connecting over the network, uses some weird Bluetooth mode that simply is not possible in a VM. I want to see in-person these (Very few) people who say they've made it work from a VM. Anyway, I got an Oculus Quest 2 as an...

Comment by 'urherenow' in 'I'm moving to Singapore, confirmed'

Lot of comments from idiots who have never moved out of their mommy's basement. @gameboy is clearly one. Singapore has a high cost of living, because, yes, it is a RICH country. It is super clean (chewing gum is illegal, even). You'll see *some* walkging while smoking, but that's illegal too...
