Comment by 'rvtr' in 'DSBrick is safer than you think (and FlashMe is a lie)'

Also for anyone saying only idiots bridge SL1, there are a lot of idiots. I find tons of SL1 bridged DS lites. I've gotten a lot of DS lites DS motherboards. Usually 1/10 have bridged SL1. Whether it's smart or not it's to do, people will solder.

@tech3475 I've got DS phats... but only the motherboards. So no. However, the write protect should be on the chips themselves. Unless the DS phat has poorly designed traces that bridge SL1, the chips will function the exact same as on a lite.

@KleinesSinchen write protection shouldn't differ between different DSes. It's a feature of the chip itself. The DS is just what holds the "switch". And as for FlashMe safety, people will solder. To be fair those are typically the people with the knowledge to unbrick, but it's still an added...

DSBrick is safer than you think (and FlashMe is a lie)

Quick tl:dr on DSBrick A long long time ago in 2005, some homebrew developer produced two trojans. One, DSBrickA/r0mloader, pretended to be a tool to run games. The other, DSBrickB/taihen was a hentai slideshow. Both of these would brick your DS when run by filling at much of it as possible with...

Unreasonably angry rant about DS firmware versions

The main version system people use for DS firmwares does not work. I'm talking about the PictoChat color test to give firmwares labels like "v1" to "v7". I think it was okay when people first started discussing it. PassME was still being used and I'd guess there wasn't much in the way of...

    My friend the radio tower

I almost see the radio tower in my city as a friend. It’s weird to think of an inanimate object as a friend, especially a giant metal pole, but everywhere I go the radio tower is there for me. When I’m lost, I look into the sky and I can see the radio tower. When I’m trying to see how far away I...

Comment by 'rvtr' in '[RELEASE] Nintendo DSi Development Units, with a hint of classrooms and mangas'

Hey, rmc / rvtr / is1982 here (man I should really just get one standard username across platforms so that this isn't confusing). If you're looking for the dumps and can't find them, "mangaon dsi dev nand" seem like nice words to use. My website with the dumps is supposed to show on google-...

It's bad if you're getting just one or two things, but bulk shipping can really help.

Comment by 'rvtr' in 'DS Cart Mod To Make A WiFi Board Flasher'

@SylverReZ odd place to ask but okay. Originally I wanted more DSis to play games with friends, then I started getting them in case I get a brick while running dev apps. I've bricked a couple doing some stupid things and didn't want to risk losing my good consoles. Now I mostly get them because...

Comment by 'rvtr' in 'Flea Market Scammer'

I only agree with bootlegs if it is specifically stated they are bootlegs, and if the price is cheap. I've considered buying an entire set of fake GBA pokemon games for $10 CAD, just because I didn't couldn't afford an expensive GBA flashcart or overpriced legit copies. The seller made sure to...

Comment by 'rvtr' in 'DS Cart Mod To Make A WiFi Board Flasher'

Yep. It's sad to think about what might've been thrown away because that wasn't known... Though one upsetting thing is that each firmware dump contains data specific to the WiFi board it's from, and that very specific data is required to communicate wirelessly. The data from one board will not...

DS Cart Mod To Make A WiFi Board Flasher

DS Cart Mod To Make A WiFi Board Flasher A few months ago I came across a repair/modding blog where DS carts were used as donors for repairing DS lite WiFi boards (these store the firmware). The blog showed how the flash chips in game carts and WiFi boards were interchangable, which was...

"Breaking into" thousands of school board accounts

One thing we're all taught from a young age is to be safe online. Keep good passwords, don't reveal personal information, etc. And who loves to teach us those lessons? Our schools. So why do they fail so horribly at internet safety? Our school made recent changes to the system to set all of our...

@IC_ thanks! I've always looked up to you and KleinesSinchen, so it makes me really happy to get nice comments like that. To me you're all super geniuses lol I'm honestly surprised though that I've done anything worth even a like. I used to be- and sometimes still am- the kid who gets memory...

@FAST6191 thanks, I've looked over the list of carts you sent and it seems like some of them are easy to obtain. I also think I've got a compatible chip model: M25PE40. Might be something for me to look into later... @banjo2 I'm sorry, but there are a couple people ready to rip my throat out...

Turning my Nintendo DS into an iQue DS

Recently I've been obsessed with the iQue DSes. It all started during a discussion with my friend @ufo. He was wanting to install iQue firmware on a non-iQue unit, but it wouldn't work. I took a look and noticed that the iQue firmware was 512kb as opposed to the regular 256kb size for other...

Thank you to my good walking friend

Note about editing (or lack thereof): Walking is, as I've said many times in the past, my best way of relaxing and clearing my head. Walking offers something I've never gotten from anything else. There's the excitement of exploring new towns and cities, and the the relaxation of just...

Note: this article may be a fair bit less humble than my other posts, so my apologies for that. It's hard for me to write about my accomplishments without sounding like I'm bragging... As we reach the end of 2022, I'd like to take a moment to look back on this year. Normally I'd move on...
