Game Boy Micro Not charging, I think it's the Diode, looking for help

I ordered like 6 of them. Figure they’re so small, may find uses for other projects. One thing to note though. Those boards do show they charge at 1 amp. I know some of the aftermarket batteries have overcharge circuitry built in so that may be fine. But just be weary of it. Charging them at 1...

Game Boy Micro Not charging, I think it's the Diode, looking for help

Thank you for the update. I had actually tested mine late last night and forgot to post. The voltages there were reading very low as well. I’m assuming the chip is damaged. Tried searching online and assume it’s a custom chip or unavailable. I ordered those small usb c charging boards so...

Gameboy micro powers on, but will not charge

Thank you so much. I actually found several 1 ohm resistors last night on a batch of boards I’d ordered and used one for a gameboy macro I’m making. so I’ll go ahead and do that.

Game Boy Micro Not charging, I think it's the Diode, looking for help

If we can’t get it figured out, or if it winds up being related to the charge IC or some other custom component, I’m wondering if we could fit something like this in. Possibly removing the usb c port from the board and locating it elsewhere (running wires from the port to wherever the actual...

Game Boy Micro Not charging, I think it's the Diode, looking for help

Good idea. I created a new thread here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/gameboy-micro-powers-on-but-will-not-charge.645981/ I initially just posted here, as I figured my issue might be the same, but it is not. I tried to find where those vias went, but the opposite side is where the cartridge slot...

Gameboy micro powers on, but will not charge

I initially posted this in another thread that was already started, as it seemed to be a very similar issue to what I was having. That thread is linked here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/game-boy-micro-not-charging-i-think-its-the-diode-looking-for-help.644385/#post-10328154 My issue seems a bit...

Game Boy Micro Not charging, I think it's the Diode, looking for help

It's actually lower. I'm not sure of the best way to check these voltages. They read different depending on whether the battery is connected or not. With the battery connected, the top leg I pointed to previously shows .02v, so essentially nothing. The 1R2 (resistor?) reads 0.2v on each side...

"The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap" decomp reaches 100% completion

Those ports still require you to compile it yourself using a ROM. Just like how SoH works with OOT.

Game Boy Micro Not charging, I think it's the Diode, looking for help

The diode seems fine. All other voltages on the left of the board seem fine except for this particular leg on (what I assume) is this transistor. Figured that component may be bad so transferred the exact component from my working micro over (voltage was reading correctly on it), but still reads...

Game Boy Micro Not charging, I think it's the Diode, looking for help

This post is giving me a lot of hope. About to go test the GBM I got recently that has the exact described issue. Been scratching my head on what could be causing it for about a week. Fuses and such are fine. Going to go test the diode in a bit to see if that's what's going on with mine as well...

Hardware Hacking Homebrew Feedback Misc Is a Nintendo Switch NVMe mod possible?

I mean that makes sense when you’re trying to solve a problem or build morale for a country. But there isn’t a problem to solve in this situation. The switch already uses freely available cheap expandable storage options. I get that it’d be neat, from a tinkering perspective; but I can’t see...

Hardware Hacking Homebrew Feedback Misc Is a Nintendo Switch NVMe mod possible?

Even if it were possible. Why would you do it? 1TB micro SD cards are cheap enough. Doesn't seem like it'd be worth the hassle to hack in an NVME drive just to do it.

HWFLY OLED install. I can't get the DAT0 connector to connect.

Yeah. I could see it putting a lot of stress on solid wire if you did it backwards, bent it, then ran it the opposite direction. I think I’ll line the inside of the shield with kapton like the other user mentioned; next time I take it apart anyway. Shouldn’t hurt anything and could prevent...

HWFLY OLED install. I can't get the DAT0 connector to connect.

I didn't use solder mask, but I used some resin from my resin 3d printer and cured it with a UV light. No idea, but figured it was about the same thing. I put it on both sides of the DAT0 pad, and put a dab near the contact point you scratch off on the board as well. Put it near the connection...

HWFLY OLED install. I can't get the DAT0 connector to connect.

Got her wired up. Had to replace a few wires after initial training and booting successfully. The joints looked ok through the scope, but some were bad. Guess it’s a learning process. I’m sure a better scope would help with that too. Thankfully they were all top board. Was using silicone wire...

HWFLY OLED install. I can't get the DAT0 connector to connect.

I watched both vids and assumed those larger pads were just anchor points. I noticed sthetix didn't too, but figured they aren't REALLY needed. Soldering to the other components should hold it in place just fine, and it isn't really a stress point.

HWFLY OLED install. I can't get the DAT0 connector to connect.

Just in case Google leads someone else here with the same issue... Check your meter. It dawned on me that I may manually need to select between continuity and diode mode on the meter by pressing that little "SEL" button after turning the dial to continuity/diode mode. Turns out that's true. So...

HWFLY OLED install. I can't get the DAT0 connector to connect.

Yeah, I'd moved it slightly left, right, etc. about 20 times or more and kept checking. I don't remember which lead I was using for each as I was just wrongly thinking "continuity" in my head. So I'm assuming (hopefully) I'd made contact and was just measuring wrong. The golden adapter had 3...

HWFLY OLED install. I can't get the DAT0 connector to connect.

I'll be honest. I thought we were checking for continuity. Though I was using the diode setting on my meter to check, and wasn't getting anything. I suppose I could have been checking backwards, as I never was thinking in terms of "diode" when I tried. I'll give it another shot when my new...

HWFLY OLED install. I can't get the DAT0 connector to connect.

As in putting the adapter on then reflowing the solder under the chip to actually solder the dat0 connector on? That does sound like the most robust possible way of doing it, without actually removing the chip. Something I'd not want to risk doing, as I've never messed with hot air, though. lol
