I have no idea, I haven't tried it yet. I'm planning on unbricking a Japanese console I have, but the battery is still charging, so it'll be a while. :P

Hmm okay good luck with that! :) I have no need for a NTRBoot card yet but it will ease my mind knowing I have one lying around should something happen to my 3DS :P

Thanks! And good luck with your project too.

Thanks! :) Apparently it's pretty easy to convert Acekard clones into legit ones but you need a original dump of an Acekard and it seems the only one that was ever dumped was a HW ID 81 one, my clone has HW ID 44.

Glad that I found this noob section ’cause I’m a real noob with 3DS…

So, we got 2 New 3DS LL (or XL) from Japan, one with FW ver.11.3.0-36J and the other with FW ver.11.4.0-37J. Of course, we would like to get CFW on them. Not only because of the region lock stuff, but also because of the benefit of running backups on them.
Now, I spent a whole day reading through tutorials, forums and blog posts, but the more I read the more confused I got… It seems that there are a lot of CFW’s and SoftMod/HardMods methods, etc. So, I thought I should better ask you guys: What are my most simple, easiest, cheapest options with these two devices?

Also, is there a way to run old (classic) DS games on the 3DS without the actual cartridges?

Thanks in advance!

For old ds games you need a flashcard

Thanks for the quick reply!

You mean, something like the R4DS card for the classic DS? I still have one somewhere... But I suppose I will need to have CFW as well?
Yes something like r4. You need cfw for 3ds games and to make old ds flashcards work. New ds flashcards work without cfw.

My 3DS has 11.4, is it safe to update to 11.5?

Also, I'm using Luma 8.1 and trying to use Luma Updater to update to 8.1.1, but it can't update, says "Could not find arm9loaderhax.bin", but I'm using B9S.

Update your Luma Updater version. You can do this through FBI's TitleDB feature. Look for Luma Updater made by KunoichiZ/Hamcha. And yes you can update.

TitleDB shows the non-existent version of Luma Updater. They need to find my thread or the Github releases page for LU to get the app. However, if they followed 3ds.guide, they should already have my fork of the app.

Oh really? If there's an error/something outdated in TitleDB who do we notify? Is there a github repo to create an issue on?

Okay, so just to be sure: 11.3 should be fine by simply softmodding it (Soundhax/Boot9strap/Luma3DS). I suppose I should be able to do it without much problems (I managed with my PS2, PSP and Wii at least back in the day).
However, as for 11.4, it would require a compatible flashcart or hardmodding (including soldering). Or waiting in hope that someday it will get a simple softmod solution...

Yes. The 11.3 is simpler. For the 11.4 one you can update to 11.5 and use the dsiwarehax and the other 3ds to install cfw on it

Hi guys with the new NTRboot I bought a Gold R4i DTS today.

I'm going to flash the ntr stuff in about 2 hours. This may seem daft but does the flashcard require an SD card in it or is it ok with just the flashcart?

Yea ps3 is a beast still to today compared to most "sticks"
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
If you just want pi for emulation no point when Anbernic releases new shit every two seconds
    +1
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
What's really cool about Pi's tho is you can have multiple SD cards with different OS on each SD card and change from say a gaming machine to a full fledged pc if wanted
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Plus all bios are set up and usually includes at least 128gbs or 64
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Yeah but if your main goal is just to play n64 and GameCube you can save about $50 and have the portability option
    +1
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
True, but on 2 monitors at 4k. Its just want you want really, to each they own.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
For a kids aspect Anbernic would be the better option they'd probably melt over the price on a good 4k display
    +1
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
For that texasroo guy, I'd recommend the Spell and speak as his first system.
    +1
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
So they buy a pi5 kit for about $150 and say a 28" 4k display probably looking around $400 total
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
They'll be getting in the territory of portable Pcs anyway
    +1
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Again you get what you pay for, its like buying a S series for $300 but its only 1440p native, if you want true 4k, gotta get the X model for $500. But yea you right, when moms buying it anyways, you gotta stay cheap.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
They could use HD out on their TV no real need for a monitor these days tbh the purists will disagree
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
I'm kind of phasing out on the need for wanting all these consoles cool to have but they just become dust build ups
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I here ya there, I have too many myself, and have hard time letting them go, since most of mine I've modded at some point. Anymore I just play Switch on the go, seriesx at home.

I need to invest in some storage totes tbh
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
    Tots?
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
    Tootles
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
    Tootles? Wtf
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
    Oh tootles
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Oh totes , lol, like Tupperware storage, I gotcha
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I'm designing my own entertainment cabinet for my man cave, to store all my systems, then I'm also designing a power supply/HDMI switcher so I can switch to whichever system I want, and power it also. Already picked up the cabinet board, but tinkering with my drawings before start
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
But yea, I have frogger arcade cabinet that I gutted and put a Pi4 then Pi5 into, but it never gets played much anymore, should sell it. Even when the kids come over, they don't want to play on it, just the xbox. TMNT and Simpson's arcade is still so fun on it, esp w 2 players.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
Gonna check out the new Garfield looks like garbage
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Can't wait to see the new "stick" that can actually play Ps3 or 360 games. I know they are getting close.
