If your wii is new, black or red it has a D3-2 or D4 drive and they cannot read backups

Assuming you're not mistaken about the age of the unit, then most likely it is a media problem. The Wii is pretty fussy about what media it will or will not read. I generally only use Taiyo Yuden's and burn them at 4x speed to ensure maximum compatibility.

Try to find some better media if possible, other wise burn at 2x or even 1x speed to see if it fixes the problem.
