Hello !
I just bought this 64gb 10 class sd card from an "official" store so i'm assuming it's not fake.
Everytime i put it in my computer i have to format it
And the capacity is 1gb ? Wth
I have tried using multiple softwares to format it to FAT32 and it always fails or shows an error message.
I still have the warranty on this thing but is there anything i can do ?

Thanks !

Have you tried formatting it to FAT32 or FAT, the 3DS is not compatible with FATex. I also have a 64gb sd card that didn't work, I just had to format it to FAT32. Try that!:teach:

Just going by what you've said in the OP and other replies - that card sounds fake, or broken out the factory.

The 1GB max size and other errors just screams "Fake SD card" or "broken on arrival". It's the kind of issues you'd have with cheap SD Cards on eBay, not from a shop (the former, not the latter issue) - which is surprising.

I'd strongly suggest avoiding using it as if a whole slew of tools cannot format it - it'll die at random (sounds like the controller is dead on it) and you don't want that to happen with actual data on it (or it being used since it could cause damage to the system you're using it in).

I find it very wrong that people are actually getting away with selling this crap. Is almost as if we have to somehow convince sandisk and other sd card sellers to sell them themself, not to retail stores. on the othter hand, memory sticks and even the vita memory cards have no problems with this. Yeah is not as common and maybe bit more expensive but trust that they work and no issues i think is a lot fair to say it stands out a bit better.

Too bad there no way to magically fix sd cards ourself with software. That be even worst.

To be honest, many retailers are pretty clueless in themselves.

I remember years ago, buying SanDisk SD cards from a shop (which was part of a large chain) for my Wii and every card I bought - it would die after a month without fail. I never did anything weird with them. I just remember saving screenshots from Animal Crossing and the card dying soon after.

Could have been a dodgy batch (but for 6 months of dodgy batches?), but it doesn't surprise me retailers can sell you duff hardware and hope you don't notice, or notice AFTER the return policy expires.

Definitely cwll SanDisk about it. I remember I called them about a 4GB flash and they sent me an 8GB. Couldn't hurt to see what they'll do for you. At worst, they might tell you it's fake, at which point, you'll have leverage over the seller.

A few things
1. Card could be defective
2. Card reader doesn't read over 32 (27)gb - My laptop is that way
3. Maybe you didn't allocate the space properly in your partition managers - I did this once and ended up with a 1gb SD until I redid the partition
4. It could be fake? But if it's an official seller from say like SanDisk, it's probably defective.

Considering it wants you to format any time you put it in the SD reader, perhaps it's an old card reader not designed for bigger cards, my laptop is the same way and I had to actually buy a new card reader to be able to use it properly.

I just got a Samsung Evo 64gb from Best Buy for about 30 bucks. You're better off buying somewhere local and trusted. I've been scammed before on Amazon by those fake SD cards. Never again.

I think we are all jumping to conclusions very fast... there can be allot of user error reasons for a 1GB partition on a 64 GB card

I would suggest that you follow these steps

Prepare the card
  1. There are many ways to format a card, but the method I used involved using the free version of MiniTool Partition Wizard. Download that and install it. Other formatters will probably work – just use the same settings from step 4 below.
  2. Put your new SDXC card in your PC’s card reader, and open MiniTool, choosing Partition Wizard.
  3. Choose your card in the list of drives (be VERY careful you choose the right one!) and delete the partition using the Delete button on the toolbar.
  4. Now Create a new partition in the freed space. Make sure you choose these options: “Create As: Primary”, “File System: FAT32” and “Cluster Size: 32kb”. You’ll also want to set a drive letter otherwise it won’t show up in Windows for when you want to copy stuff to it!
  5. Click “OK” to accept these settings, and then Apply (on the toolbar) to actually commit the deed to the card.
  6. When it’s done, that’s it! Your card should now be readable by your 3DS. Go ahead – turn your 3DS off, swap your old card for the new one, and check. You may be told your 3DS is initialising the card – that’s fine. If the Data Management – 3DS Software section shows an obscene number of free blocks, you’re sorted.
