999 unlocked on iOS in Japan minus puzzles, English version set for autumn

Remember 999? That visual novel gaem on DS which was received favorably by just about everyone?

Well 999 has just been released for iOS in Japan, however it lacks the puzzle gameplay of the original. Chunsoft decided to make it into a pure visual novel rather than the VN/puzzle hybrid like the original. The iOS version also takes on more of a comic book art style.

999 lead writer and director Kotaro Uchikoshi said on Twitter that he thinks an English version "will also be released by autumn." There's been no official confirmation that though considering how well 999 and its sequel Virtue's Last Reward did, it probably will hit Western shores eventually.

About time they released this on ios. Although I don't know how I feel about not having any puzzles. Yes the story was good but the puzzles added to it, will be interesting to see how this turns out.

I really liked 999 so it's nice to see it getting more notice even though I'd rather this have been an android release.
So it is a VN as in the decisions you make effect the outcome of the story, not just you are along for the ride with no real influence on the outcome?

256x192 per screen. Ignoring bezel that means 256x384 or 2/3

640×960 is an iphone 4s or identical aspect ratio.

Does not seem like an especially troubling issue.

I'm not too sure. The original game was creepy as hell, kept me awake just because of how gruesome it was, the music and everything. Virtue's Last Reward on the other hand, would put someone to sleep.
