Amazon's Twitch Prime is being re-branded as Prime Gaming

amazon-prime-gaming.png

Those that enjoy free games may be familiar with Twitch Prime, a benefit available to those with Amazon Prime subscriptions and a Twitch account. Most commonly, Amazon offers free games redeemable through their own launcher on PC, as well as bonuses for those who subscribe to streamers on Twitch. From here on out, however, Twitch Prime will no longer be used to refer to the service, with Amazon re-branding and changing the name. As of now, Twitch Prime has become Prime Gaming, in the hopes of it being more marketable to a wider audience, according to a comment from the director of the Prime Gaming division. Twitch Prime first began in 2016, with its free game offerings beginning around 2018.

I been with Amazon prime for almost 2 years and I never heard of this "twitch prime" nor am I interested. I do watch Prime Video from time to time but on rare occasions.

Don't care. Still gonna call it Twitch Prime.
Also, "emotional benefits" has to be the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard in this context.

Then you're one of the people they're trying to reach with the new branding. I think they're just trying to take advantage of the Amazon clout and attract more people to it who are not necessarily into Twitch. The free games are included as part of your Prime subscriptions, so if you are into gaming (I would think you are since you're on here?), you might as well redeem the things regardless of whether you use Twitch or not.

There's also a lot of mobile game rewards (which I personally have zero interest in) recently which have basically nothing to do with Twitch at all. So the branding change reflects their attempts to push it more towards "gamers" in general and not just streamers/stream watchers.

I wouldn't be surprised if their launcher gets rebranded at some point too.

@tech3475 & @TehCupcakes
I had took a look at the website I guess they are offering SNK games which I already have a complete Romset for like NeoGeo/Mame. I guess this would be good for people who are into game streaming I honestly never knew they had this the only time they email me is about how I never use Amazon Music or Prime Video lol (I have Apple Music & Netflix) Which is why I don't use them.

The free games change every now and then, so I'd check every so often.

yes, I have been apparently, how do I get these free games? What do I do to redeem them? I haven't gotten any emails.

Iirc I just linked my accounts and claimed them from Twitch’s homepage from the ‘crown’ Icon.

However I would just click on the source above and try signing in using the top right, where I’m then asked to sign in using my Amazon account.

The homepage also lists all the claimable games when signed in.

Yay another name change.
But in dropping Twitch which in itself seen as a brand ... it might open up more options for what Amazon can do with the service.
They're also completely alienating all their non-gaming partners and streamers who rely on Twitch Prime for revenue, of which there are plenty. I doubt I'll see many people in the art and music categories asking me to subscribe with Prime Gaming.

Fair enough, that is a side I did not think about.
As for the subscribing in itself, they are making Amazon Prime a demand now ... or was that always the case?
(I have not really dived that much into Twitch Prime to be honest)

That's a much better name though I still don't see myself becoming a Prime member.

Amazon Prime has always been a necessity for Twitch Prime membership.
