We are all working together, note android has basically no priority right now as waiting on nv to finish their source release. We are working on making Linux easy to use with stuff like auto audio switching and hw video decoding.

Just get Nvidia Shield TV, it's got Android, uses the same tegra chip as the switch and gets regular updates. Also it's a great bit of kit.

"Just get a..." is always such a ridiculous response, but in this case even more so.

Love how people suggest to "just get a" or "just use your phone"

Some people don't have a phone capable of even running Candy Crush for whatever reason or they are kids whose parents have told them they aren't allowed a phone until they are older.

People have their own reasons for wanting things and no one has the right to judge anyone for it.

I will be buying a second hand switch once this reaches maturity. The screen size is bigger than my phone, the controls are connected and I'm not reliant on dodgy touch screen controls. Perfect AIO device with the best of both worlds. Even better when/if Android is released due to the availability of the Apps on Android.

Sounds like they have linux in a mostly useable state, with some issues still to be figured out. Then back to Android after that I guess.

Yep, I think I remember reading that once they have Linux working it'd be easier to get Android working.

I just don't understand this obsession with putting android on the switch. There is no point imo. Everyone already has a smart phone that will run most things, and anything else (like Dolphin) would likely run much better with a proper switch homebrew port.

I would agree if the lag from using my SFC30 with my phone didn't have so much lag and if the performance were a little bit better (Moto G5 Plus, I think. I only got it because my mom got me a smartphone that couldn't download updates without sacrificing an up-to-date version of another app). I don't know if lag could be mitigated on the Switch, and performance is something I've always been curious about (GOW on PSP running at more than 30fps is promising) for anything past the 5th generation of consoles that isn't a handheld. Do I think GC is realistic on the Switch? No, but I am curious about Dreamcast emulation, because while the Switch will be getting a version of Guilty Gear X2 no problem (with the Korean OST from what I understand. ), Capcom Vs. SNK 2 won't and I'd be very surprised if Capcom released a MVC collection after MVC Infinite has seemingly killed the series off, with leaks and other rumors not really having any water to back them up, much less Power Stone and other games that haven't already been emulated by people via various methods for the past 10 years now.

I know, "no one bought the Switch to play old games," but some of us wouldn't mind a portable arcade game machine for killing the time while waiting for class/appointments, or as a Raspberry Pi/ODroid XU4 killer in terms of emulation possibilities. And having Android as opposed to Horizon would reduce a lot of the headache in getting certain things to work via circumventing the way Nintendo set the Switch up and continues to update it to this day.

Maybe a n00b question also late to the party, but Nvidia shield already has Android oreo so why bother with porting Android pie instead of oreo? As far as I know a GSI is available for android 8 so why isn't it being used instead on the switch?
