Depends on the specs. Some 2012 laptops can even run some modern games. Thinkpads being the prime example.

Serious Sam The First/Second Encounter (Get the Revolution Version on Steam, you can get both games with minor updates.)

All of the Counter Strike games shoud run well, I recomend getting CS: Source or 1.6, cause they run better and are moddable, as well as pretty good player bases of their own.

Portal

ULTRAKILL is really fun and runs perfectly fine on my laptop, despite hte game being from 2021.

I can recommend way more but thats it for now.

Most games on GOG you will be able to play. Try MDK series there, it's fun and off radar.

Most laptops struggle due to GPU.
My 2012 laptop could not even play most 2012 games.
My 2020 laptop can play 2012 games just fine.

Just go through various best game lists of a given year.

I mamaged to run Dolphin with mediocre to eeeeehhhhhh... results on my 5 year old toshiba laptop. It shouldnt be too bad.

Trust me I have a horrible laptop with 4gb of available ram and a cpu with integrated graphics and I had meh results with dolphin.

If emulation is your thing, get a USB drive or a SD with USB adapter, flash batocera in, and start trying every system. You can rule out PS3, everything else may or may not work, best way to know is trying, and batocera has everything ready to go, so in a hour or so you will know everything about what you system can do.

For PC games, get what you want, if do not work, refund it.
