Hardware Broken charger Port

I got a 3ds from a cousin who said their 3ds wouldnt charge.I put the battery from the 3ds to a new 3ds xl and it started charging, so it wasnt the battery , or the charger.He later told me that someone yanked the charger off of the 3ds and that it hasnt been able to charge since.Whats the problem?

By saying that, I meant if some of the pins or if it was the plastic in the charger port that wouldnt make it work.

Does it matter? Point is, the charging port is broken and you need to replace it.
