Hey,

so I just got a broken switch from a friend, which seems to be unrecoverable for me (water damage).
I've opend it up and the NAND chip seems fine, no water or corrosion got anywhere near it.

Is it possible to just pop that thing into another switch and read any save data off of it? If so, can it also be used to unban a another switch?
Or are these NAND thingys console specific? Anyway to get the data anyway?

NAND chips are console specific. You should try fixing the water damage instead.

a few pictures would be helpful, if the water is isolated to one specific area you might be able to fix it up, but it would be a specialist job as I would guess at least one of the chips on the board would be corroded, probably one of the power management chips

if there is corrosion all over the board its probably only good for parts as the work required to diagnose it all and replace several chips etc would be overkill.

2 days IPA bath+1h ultrasonic cleaner should fix water damage if it was fully submerged.
If one of the BGA chips got corroded you should reflow it.
If the water damage is isolated to a small area just try to clean the corrosion using an old toothbrush+99,9% IPA.
Depending on how long it was submerged in water you should replace the battery.

yeah might be worth giving the chips a scrub with IPA, you might get lucky and they didn't fry, but the power management chips are pretty sensitive in the switch already, fortunately this also makes finding issues easier as there is lots of documented repair jobs performed so you can identify which chips are gone based on shorts on caps near the chips

I think a picture here would be helpful though to asses just how damaged the board is, if he has a multimeter too that could help gain insight into if any of the power management chips are blown once the board is cleaned up
