Just picked up my gba sp after not playing it for a year or so to try and finish some games. How ever with this one the problem that stopped me when it came out , still stops me now :'( .

In the Fukurou Forest there is a level 80 door that is suppose to be able to be opened with goten. How ever it always says this is not the right charactor. When I first played , the only solution people could offer is to load it in VBA and go past that bit , then save and upload the new save to the flashcard. How ever VBA cannot load the save and no one ever offered a solution to why , even though they claimed to of made it work. Done a new search and really could not find much.

So is there anyway around this problem yet? , a new patch? , or just something. Really would like to finish off these few games I left.

Using a EZFA 256Mb and rom is patched with the rising sun patch.

Thanks

I use the exact same card and the saves to/from the cart from VBA should work perfectly as it is the same .sav file.
And yes, the only solution to this is to play the nonpatched game in VBA with your save. Then save and upload that save to your cart.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong then , as I just can't get it to load

.I've tried with both the patched rom and the clean one.

I've tired naming both the save and the rom to the same name , and also just loading the rom and then importing the battery file. All results in the same thing. Battery loaded comes up , but the save is not present. Also have tried changing save type from automatic to eeprom 64K and 128k and same results.

What am I doing wrong ?, save is fine as it loads on the card , just VBA will not load it.

set the save in vba to automatic first. That way it will load the save. Then change the save type to the eeprom 64k and save the game again. You should be able to get past that point on your gba sp now.

Still won't go. Save type set to automatic and I get "battery loaded" , but yet again it's not there. If I start a game and save it on VBA , they load fine. Just the one from the card will not. Other games from the card load fine aswell , just not the one I need to.

Results are exactly the same with both patched and clean rom. Also it seems to do something to the save. It's 64KB before VBA apparently loads it , but then after that it changes to 8KB. Read it means the one from the card is eeprom patched , but I've tried both patched and unpatched rom and still won't load.

Edit: Got it to load

. VBA still won't accept it , but it works on my G6L. How strange EZFA won't play it and open that door but my G6L will

Hi, I have the exact same problem on my G6L. I get to Fukurou's Forest and I cannot open the gate.

I've tried everything on VBA but when I launch the game the save is simply NOT there...

Did you patch your ROM with any specific options for your G6L? What is the firmware you're using?

Edit: aarrrrgghh *pulls hair out*

My savegame just won't show up in VBA no matter what I do...

I really wanna finish this game. Does anyone have a savegame just after opening the fukurou forest door?

4.2B and defualt settings when I put the rom on. Rom is patched with the rising sun fix.

Ok, I'm not sure I made some progress ...

Somehow (I'm still not quite sure) I managed to get the savegame loading in the latest VBA. I change the save type to EEPROM, save the game right outside the forest. Now 2 things can happen:

1. If I RESET the rom (without closing VBA), my savegame is there but the fukurou door will NOT open.

2. If I close VBA and re-open it, my savegame is now GONE! At this point I can change the save type to automatic, reload VBA and it will be there but the door will NOT open.

My theory is that it's not actually saving in EEPROM type. If it were, VBA would be able to see it once I close it and re-open it.

Any ideas?

So no ideas then? Doesn't anyone have a savegame right after the fukurou forest I can use?

I'll get my save game of my g6 when I get a chance. Save is right outside forest , but with the door open.

As for is there any flashcard it works on , seems fine on my G6 , but might be because the save was taken off my EZFA. EZFA up to the forest , then G6L from then onwards.

hmmmm... is there any software that will convert my SRAM save into EEPROM? Maybe that'd do it?

Ok, this is seriously not funny anymore. Your savegame loaded great, I was so excited but when I get back to the fukurou door, it is CLOSED! I cannot leave the fukurou forest now

I'll make another save outside the forest once I get the dragonball from inside. You can use that and it won't matter if you can't get door open as you won't need to go back there. Bit busy at the moment though , so probably won't have time to do it for a couple of days.

Again you get what you pay for, its like buying a S series for $300 but its only 1440p native, if you want true 4k, gotta get the X model for $500. But yea you right, when moms buying it anyways, you gotta stay cheap.

But yea, I have frogger arcade cabinet that I gutted and put a Pi4 then Pi5 into, but it never gets played much anymore, should sell it. Even when the kids come over, they don't want to play on it, just the xbox. TMNT and Simpson's arcade is still so fun on it, esp w 2 players.
