I got the 3.60 update last night. It installed ok and I was able to sign back in to PSN.
Today I can't sign in to PSN at all and I'm getting error code 8071053D.
I Googled the error but some say it's Sony server overload (seems logical) and some say it's a problem between my PS3 and router?
I tried turning everything off at the wall etc. but no joy.

Any Ideas/facts on the matter would be welcome.

Nope. Not ever. I'm too concerned about losing online multiplayer. The only thing I've done with it is replace the blueray drive (not recently)

EDIT: Nice banner you got there

I have been signed into PSN for most of the day, and I am on right now with no issues.

I googled your error code and it seems that it might be a power issue with the PS3 that is the problem. Suggestions to fix it are as follows.

The Playstion 3 must be hard booted. To do this :

1. Turn the PS3 to stanby power off.
2. Turn off power on the PS3 by using power toggle on back off PS3 and unplug power cord.
3. Restart your wireless router, if using one.
4. Plug in the PS3 power cord and power on the PS3.
5. Try creating a new connection on the by accessing the Network Settings menu option on the Playstation 3.

Thanks for the speedy reply.
I went through those steps before my post but to no avail.
Since then I tried a wired connection and set that up and I can sign in again. I'll try wireless again in an hour or so (in lobby lol)

All seems to be working again through wireless and LAN.

Thanks for the help.

I still haven't been able to confirm what the error code (8071053D) is meant to indicate. Plenty of sites have copy & pasted the 'fix' (didn't work for me) but an explanation of the error is missing. A quick google shows that this error has been annoying people since at least 2007. Some people said they were only getting the error when going to the PSN store, while others were unable to sign in completely.
The error does seem to turn up when Sony's servers are busy with map-packs/updates, so that's my bet - shitty servers!
