As there are many video tutorials out there and I recently bought a Wii where BootMii can be installed as Boot2(case is scratched and looking poor) and I have a brand new Wii at my home too I thought lets swap the cases.

That the Boot2 Wii is literary new and I also have in mind to swap the drive from the new to the old Wiis board because I dont know how much it was used and stuff.

Is anyone here experienced with that? Is it possible to swap the DVD drive from a 2009 Wii to a 2007?

Any insight would be nice!

Not really trying to be mean at all, but if you have to ask if it's even possible to swap the drive, I wouldn't do any case modding in the foreseeable future.

This is not the answer I was looking for, I just wanted to know if you can use a newer drive with an older Wii or if there are any compatibility problems...

But thanks for your 2 cents anyway...

You should not run into problems.

If they are not compatible you'll notice it on the first Disk you try. But it should work, as I've switched random drives for different main boards and never had a problem.

Ok, I did it...

It took me 3 hours of my life but it was worth every minute.

Now I have a like new Wii, BootMii on Boot2, new DVD drive, it was a bit complicated but anyone who can assemble a computer can handle this, the only thing really important is to memorize where the screws fit in xD

I took some pics from the Boot2 able board and from the newer one, if needed I put it up for interested people, you can see a pretty mess too on my desk^^

Everything is working, I am really happy now^^

I would recommend replacing those cheezy tri-wing screws with some standard philipshead screws. The tri-wings are easy as hell to strip due to the fact that they are made out of some cheap aluminum. Not only that, if you ever have to get back inside again you won't have to dig out the special tool. I purchased a set of standard screws that are all the correct sizes of the triwings on ebay for like two bucks.
