You can't link an NNID to a banned console. You can unlink your NNID from it by injecting a clean nnidsave.bin, thus restoring the ability to use eShop, but if you want, say, Pokémon Bank - you're out of luck.

Are you though?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the ban simply recognizes your console's ID as blacklisted on the Nintendo servers. But ever since sighax/boot9strap, we've had access deep enough into the innards of the console that we should be able to simply change our ID, thus making it possible to circumvent the ban entirely.

So I am very confused as to why we don't do that. Why is there no apparent effort being done in that direction? After all this time, I almost expected tutorials to be everywhere. Has nobody in this absurdly skilled and determined community managed to figure out the secret yet? That's hard for me to believe.

Does anyone have a clue?

Already been done, and it's not as simple as just changing your console ID. It has to be a legitimate one signed by CTCert because Nintendo now verifies IDs thanks to hundreds of people spoofing theirs with "1234".

It can be done by changing the CtCert, however it's read only which means it has to be patched on the fly in CFW. I know someone has a modded Luma3DS that can do this, but it's not public.

So it has to be transferred from another (unbanned) console then? How does one do it? The video explained very little since you had the files ready, it seems - I certainly expected some GodMode injection to be required...?
Also, would it ruin things if the source system was a different kind? As in, "New" vs "old" families?

Any CtCert from any system in the 3ds family can be used to unban, though keep in mind if you use an O3ds cert on a N3ds you need to code extra patches in to bypass an update the system thinks it needs, but doesn't actually need. I was actually trying to sell this service a year or two back but I was forced to stay silent because some people are selfish and didn't want it getting patched for their own ends, and accused me of scamming.

So those patches aren't readily available online then?

You were accused of scamming because you never showed proof. The code itself is literally two lines, and you couldn't even produce that. Nobody bullied you, and nobody was trying to prevent you from making this public. If that was your end goal, why sell it anyway?

CTCert and the device ID are stored in the ARM9 RAM. They can be injected with GM9, but it's pointless as the RAM will be flushed upon rebooting. They have to be loaded into memory by some kind of loader. In my video, I'm using a custom build of Luma that takes care of it, but one could also use a bootloader or something of the like. Also, as stated above, when using mismatched certificates, NIM has to be patched because your console is misidentified. This feature was removed from Luma because it causes too many problems, but I believe Rei-Six still has this patch.

You wanted me to give you what I was selling to people for free, or otherwise I was scamming people, because apparently you're the authority when it comes to this kind of stuff, oh wait you're not. Yet you still tried to slander me when I had no obligation to prove jack shit to you.

Uh, no I didn't. Screenshots are still up. I only asked for proof on behalf of your customers. When you make a claim, the burden of proof is on you. If you refuse to give proof, then everyone thinks you're a liar. It's like claiming that you have a leprechaun for sale, but refuse to show possible buyers the leprechaun. Regardless, I'm not having this argument with you. Take your butthurt elsewhere.

I'm not going to publicly show code I have for sale, am I? Idiot

No one asked for you to give away "your" (lol) code. That's like walking into a store and buying some completely random item. You're not asking for the item for free but you at least want to know WHAT you're getting, and proof that you're actually getting it.

I did show proof, in the form of my n3ds which was at the latest firmware at the time getting the update message.

That proves absolutely nothing. Delete the Face Raiders title, for example, and the console will throw up a system update notification. I also didn't ask you to publicly post "your" code. You could have made a video, or privately shown the code. This is why I asked through a PM. I'd obviously have no need to steal it from you. Anyway, I'll just leave this here for everyone else to make their own judgment.

Doesn't mean shit. You could, uhh, let's see. Delete the DS Cart Whitelist and you'd still get that message for example.

Not saying you DID, but if someone asks for proof for a product/service/whatever that you're trying to sell, you'd generally want to give it to them

Although it is pretty crummy that you're trying to profit from open source work.

Got seriously off topic...
So the tl;dr is we can indeed do that stuff, but nobody has released the method publicly?

Clearly anyone that has figured out how to do it either wants to make money off of it or just brag that they CAN do it, instead of helping out. ^_^

Can I use N3DS cert on O3DS?
