Is the datel battery just as good as the pandora battery and can it unbrick the psp and reinstall the original firmware ? And do I have to downgrade my psp to install custom firmware?

No, if you're gonna use a Pandora's Battery, then all you have to is use something like TotalNewbieInstallerPandoraBatteryMenu or whatever it is. Use ediblebird's thread.
