Hacking did kids brick it or is it just shot

I soft modded the wii a few years ago now it does not work. The screen is black with no sound. Took it apart and everything seems good no burned out circuit boards. turns on just fine but I get nothing. blue lights blinks twice. I have pri loader installed. Is it just shot or have the kids messed with it. any ideas would be apreciated

i do have a nand back up but nothing comes up on the screen even after trying to enter priiloader

Ok, bootmii time. If you still have the bootmii folder on the sd card remove or rename the bootmi.ini to boot into bootmii (please excuse my repetitive use of the word boot ), if not you can get it using modmii (i'll look up an easier source in the meantime).

then use the power button to select the "the homebrew channel" button and select it using the reset button.

does the hbc load?

the bootmii folder should contain "armboot.bin" and "ppcboot.elf". If not you will need to acquire those two files (as mentioned for example using modmii).

As you have BootMii installed as boot2 and it is at least loading that, based on the two drive flashes, it probably isn't a hardware brick.
Insert a SD card with the BootMii files on it (bootmii folder with some files inside). From there you can run HBC or restore a NAND backup. If those two options don't work then there are more serious problems with your Wii's NAND and there are other things you could try, like cBoot2 which will load a cIOS from the SD card and you can use a WAD manager or similar with the cIOS to fix your Wii.

I'm not quite sure what you mean with "boot into bootmii or bootintobootmii".

Your current assignment (if you chose to accept it) is to boot the wii using an fat formated sd card which contains (at least) the folder "bootmii" which contains at least the two files "armboot.bin" and "ppcboot.elf".

Then bootmii should start automatically.

If not it could be that bootmii doesn't like your SD card (said to happen for older bootmii versions). Then you should try other SD cards, especially old 2GB SD cards ( so no SDHC, SDXC and whatnot, plain SD) are said to have the highest compatibility.

If that will not work chances are that something really went belly up on the hardware side.

If the kids claim to be innocent, you might google for articles about defective bluetooth adapters. I think the symptoms are the same.
If you have another wii you can simply exchange those bluetooth boards to see if it helps.

i saw that to but it does not make sence to me the blue tooth is for the controlers not the av but it is worth a try thanks

Ahh I see. That was just some poor wording on my side then, the goal was just to get rid of a bootmii.ini file should one have been present in order to force bootmii to boot on the default settings.

If then you still get no output I too would say it's a hardware fault (although I have to mention that I'm in no way a certified Wii repair guy, just that i don't know of any software related error which would hinder the booting of bootmi).

And as far as i know obcd is right. If i remember correctly the Wii will refuse to initialize the output if the WLAN or Bluetooth daughter board is failing to initialize (be it that one of them is broken or just doesn't have good connection).
Sadly the only easy way to test them (without specialized testing equipment) would be to replace them with known to work parts.

But it could as well be a faulty power supply or the mainboard itself.

edit: scratch the power supply, i had forgotten that it only supplies 12V, somehow thought it supplied different Voltages in which case it wold have been possible to have been a partial failure.

And as the modules (WLAN and BT) are about 20$ each (without any guarantee that they are the culprit) it might be more feasible to snipe a used Wii from ebay, craigslist or some similar source.

edit the second: Some posts on different forums claim that sometimes the power supply can hang and provide unclean output (wrong and/or unstable voltage) and can be soft resetted by unplugging it from the outlet as well as the Wii for five minutes. As you mentioned you had already opened up the Wii I suppose you already did that, if not this might be worth a try too.

Yeah, it is for the controllers, but the Wii won't do anything if it's broken anyway.

ok i will give the blue tooth replacement a shot this will be for me because the wife talked them into pooling their money and getting a crapy mini wii that is what they are playing now the thing is garbage
